Thanks you Orkney Star you really are a star! Clicked on you link and it worked. I would like to knit this but am worried about the steeking, might adapt the pattern and knit it back and forth on straight needles instead of in the round.
Didn't even look at the actual pattern really, sorry, so not sure how hard it would be. Glad you got it ok though :).

I would like to knit myself a waistcoat type thing to put on over long sleeved tops in the winter. I have looked on google but can't find a pattern for what I want. It needs to be longer than the usual short fashion styles, to help keep my behind warm! I am best with simple knitting and need it to be free if possible. Any ideas?
Have you looked on https://www.ravelry.com ? Amazing amount of patterns on there!
This is a start....you need to register to use it (free) and you can adjust search parameters (down left hand side), for free or not, yarn thickness, etc etc.

One of my favourite free pattern websites is www.knitty.com. You can search the pattern archives by category. As it is an American site they tend to call waistcoats 'vests'.

You will need to translate the american terms to english, but they are easy to understand, they just say things such as bind on and bind off for cast on and cast off.

I've returned to knitting and am finding it very relaxing which is very necessary at the moment because of my home situation.
HOWEVER I think it is exacerbating my shoulder trouble.
I've read that continental style knitting might help but at the age of 70 am finding it very difficult especially purling.
I have tried YouTube but am still struggling- anyone got any words of wisdom, please?

Re my appeal for help with shoulder pain- I think I might have discovered what was causing the problem and thought it might help other knitters.
I was resting my elbow on the arm of the settee whilst knitting and this raised my shoulder by a good 4". I now shuffle along the settee, put a cushion on my right side and the pain is definitely less- yippee!

bag4life, I have arthritis in my neck and shoulders and I find that if I support my elbows with cushions when I'm knitting and crocheting it helps a lot. By the time I've done that, and packed cushions round my back to support it, I look like I'm sitting in a cushion box!
Oh dear, here we go again.

Glad you got it sorted bag4life ;)

I have started knitting from Alan Dart's Advent Tree. Hoping to get them all done for my Grandson's birthday in October.:D
The first four are fruit - apple, pear, tangerine and plum

A while ago a young man designed a knitting help for his gran who had arthiritis. Here is a link to the website. http://knittingaid.com/ No idea if it would be of use, but people seem to swear by it.

Four more for the Advent Calendar

    100_7416.jpg

Just wondering if anyone can help please? One of the calendar items is a Father Christmas and I need a small amount of Snowflake or similar in white for the beard and edging on coat and hat.
Does anyone happen to have any lying around to save me buying a whole ball? Happy to pay postage if anyone can help.

I'm just starting to get into knitting but am begrudging to pay so much for wool at the shop I have found that sell it. Can anyone suggest anywhere good to purchase wool online?

Ebay ? I tend to get mine there or in the local yarn shops Decent quality wool is expensive but yarn mixes with acrylic percent in can be cheaper.
