Has anyone tried using one of these? Apparently you can make a scarf in a couple of hours!AMAZON SELLERS CLUB MEMBER 0082 :hello:0

Yes, I've tried a mini-loopa which was given away sometime ago on a magazine, I think it was Simply Knitting. The mini-looper uses finer yarn than the big one that you can buy. I found it fairly quick to do but longer than two hours but the larger one takes very thick yarn so perhaps it grows quicker. I liked the finished effect but found the back stitching a bit of a fiddle. You have to do this to secure the loops and if you don't catch every one it you get large loops hanging off. It would be worth a try if you want a very thick loopy scarf.

I reckon that it should be possible to make a Loopa frame and use the instructions given here

Ok Seakay, do we reckon the pink thingie is the Loopa?
I think a 6 pint milk carton would do the trick.
not sure how many boys and girls will enjoy the backstitching bit.
Can't wait to see your finished scarf.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
No not me! Well, not for a while, anyway. I'm doing a pink squirly scarf with beads for my sister (birthday at start of Feb) and trying out dishcloth patterns for me.
I think that the pink thing is the Loopa, it just looks like a squared off U so I just thought that if I could find some instructions online then it would save OS's a couple of quid.
I had been thinking of card, cereal packet maybe? but plastic from a milk carton would be more long lasting.0 -
Loopa?? give me needles any day!!!!!!!!! and Bella good on you for being "old fashioned and proud!"

Aw Bella, that's a shame. I always think a baby in something hand knitted looks like a loved baby iyswim
(Not saying those that aren't in hand knitted clothes aren't loved!!! Oh you know what I'm saying.:D I'm afraid my knitting is a bit rusty now aside from scarves but I'm enjoying reading what you're all doing. May join you all soon, when I decide what to make.

Meant to add DD and I bought a Loopa each from John Lewis and we never managed to get one right. It was the backstitching that got us. Spent a couple of hours on one and as I'd messed up the backstitching it just hung and unravelled in parts. Very frustrating. I would definately not use a loopa again!!

I wonder how many Loopas are up for sale on ebay?
I'm almost ashamed to report that I've joined a dishcloth knitting group.
It's american and it's a Yahoo group. They do KALs knit-a-longs 2 a month.
I have made a start on my first KAL, it's a football, (american).
They are all knitting them in coloured cotton yarn, me, I'm still trying to use up my mammoth amount of plain white 100% cotton.
So, if anyone fancys knitting a 'themed' dishcloth, then join up....there are loads of different patterns.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -

Ive now pulled my scarf out several times! I seem to keep dropping stiches. Im not a very experienced knitter, I have made loads of those fluffy scarfs though as they are so easy. This however is driving me mad but Im determined to finish it.
I knitted my sister in law a scarf from firefly. It is difficult, with the needle going through it etc, but it was a brilliant result, and I just did a dead simple garter stitch scarf.
I can't believe I hadn't found this thread!!! But now I have!!!.0 -
Well as part of my new year I have taken up knitting and am knitting a square/rectangle thing that I'm going to use as a dish cloth. Yes I've dropped a few stitches and god knows where I went wrong every now and again and it looks a bit funny but I'm so proud to be making something for my little home!
I just want to thank Lily-Lu for the helpful website :T :T :T Just to clarify though, the website address is: http://www.knittinghelp.com as that purl stitch was puzzling me but no more! thanks again!
Good luck with the knitting:D0
