Not had time to read through all the pages, but does anyone have a good site they can recommend for getting started. Always wanted to learn but no-one to teach me.

Well as part of my new year I have taken up knitting and am knitting a square/rectangle thing that I'm going to use as a dish cloth. Yes I've dropped a few stitches and god knows where I went wrong every now and again and it looks a bit funny but I'm so proud to be making something for my little home!

I just want to thank Lily-Lu for the helpful website :T :T :T Just to clarify though, the website address is: http://www.knittinghelp.com as that purl stitch was puzzling me but no more! thanks again!

    Morning everyone,
well i got my jacket finished and then ripped it all back down and am now knitting a jumper with the wool as i didnt like the finished result of the jacket, pre joining MSE i probably would have just lost heart with it and binned it but not anymore and as a result i have the makings of a nice jumper for one of my dgd's but im thinking of putting it away for one of thier birthdays or for christmas.
Still not knitted any more squares but i aim to restart them as soon as i get this jumper finished, im on the sleeves and thats the part i least enjoy.
happy knitting folks and welcome to the new people

  • Hi tooties:hello: Keep going with those sleeves you're on the home straight now.

Sorry you've had to pull a garment back but at least good is coming from it.

I have nine patches joined together so far and my blanket is beginning to look good. It's nice to see it coming together rather than just a bundle of squares.

I'm resisting buying too, very hard with the sales on. I have also been able to put aside some wool out of my stash to give to a would be knitter so I'm pleased about that.

    Happy knitting to all,
    Bella

Can't get that link to work. I've brought some wool and am ok with the basic knit stitch. What's the best beginners project?

    Hi Gargoyle and welcome.

How about a scarf? Cast on some stitches and then just knit.
Try the link in Jennio's post, think the first one had too many http in it.

Hi everyone, glad I found this thread. I'm not a great knitter, but have found some wool in our local 'bargain' shop at 49p a ball - its a type of ribbon wool - if that makes sense? Different colours mixed in and a bit fluffy.

Anyway thought I would make a scarf - can anyone tell me what size needles I should be using? Would 6mm be around the right size? Any ideas please?

    Hope someone can advise.

Cat, does it not say on the ball band?
I will have a look at my fancy wool tomorrow.

If you have a Wilkinsons nearby, their fancy wool is 3 for £1 at the moment.

Hiya whatatwit, no it doesn't say:confused:. Perhaps it doesn't really matter and you can use whatever size needles you want? :D
