Am busily knitting gloves again for DD4 as she lost the last ones I did....she is definitely getting elastic to connect them this time, 26 or not! ...
:rotfl:
I remember when my girls (dd and 2 step-dd) were in their teens they decided they wanted fingerless gloves. They wore them to school and then all their friends wanted some, then their friends the local boys on bikes decided they were good under leather gauntlets ..... I think I knitted about 20 pairs.
I knitted a few spares because my girls often came home with just one glove!! Should have elasticated them...... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I am on the second side of the jacket. Still have the sleeves to go. I am a scrapbooker and yes it is expensive. Some say it need not be but I can't bring myself to use anything other than the proper stuff as I want these albums to last as well as look good. I started by researching the family tree and scrapping that information and kept going. I make myself scrap 1 day only a week so that keeps the costs down and leaves me time for other things. If I didn't spend so much time on MSE I would get a lot more knitting done.Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0

Am very impressed with Wilkinsons, I ordered on the internet a lot of the wool on offer at 3.30pm on New Years Day, I opted to have it delivered to a store near where my hubby works, they telephoned at 7pm on 2 January to say it had arrived and was ready to be collected.
Amazing service...0 -
My jazzy socks are coming along really well - I'm up to the instep shaping on the second one. I've been looking at some of the websites recommended on here, and I've found a gorgeous free pattern on Knitting Daily. The only problem is, it takes 9 balls of Rown Kidsilk Haze (one each of 9 colours) and that works out at over £60 for a wrap (big scarf!). Not moneysaving in any way! Does anyone know a cheaper yarn that would work? I was wondering about Patons Misty.
It's the Modern Quilt Wrap on http://www.knittingdaily.com if anyone wants a look. It's on Page 3 of the free patterns at the moment and it says it's easy!Landgirl0 -
The yarn used seems to be aran (uses 4.5mm needles) and I think that any type of yarn in the right weight would work - after all, it is the lovely colourful pattern that is the point, isn't it?0

Just copied and pasted this from that site. It looks like a mohair/silk mix yarn to me (no wonder it's so expensive) but I'm sure that one of the english yarn companies would have something similar.

Landgirl....that's the one I want to do....I put a link on here a couple of pages back...it looks divine....I've printed out the pattern and I think I also know all the colours just in case I see a bargain ball of it.
Seakay..it's knitted in the same stuff as the twirly scarf...
It can be got on e-bay for about £5 per ball, but I'm sure I read on the knittingdaily site that they had calculated exactly how much of each colour you need and that it would be possible to make 2 from the yarn.
I'll have a look when I'm next on knitting daily....it may be possible to share the yarn.or, you do sometimes get part balls for sale on e-bay, so the remainder could be sold.
I've told myself that when I start selling some stuff on e-bay again, then I can put my profits towards getting the yarn.
Maybe i should put it in my sig.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
I just found this thread and I think it's great - I've only been knitting on and off for a couple of years but have decided to do a bit more of it after my seven-year-old niece loved a pink and fluffy scarf I knitted for her for Christmas. So, I've a lot of wool to use up (and an offer at Wilko's earlier this week with 3 balls of lovely wool for 99p) and I'll be making lots of presents this year. I've got to find patterns for (and learn how to read knitting patterns
) fingerless gloves, learn how to make socks and other stuff or there'll be a plethora of scarves only being knitted
I'm a beginner, really.

I like the idea of selling some stuff to raise the money. I'll go and have a look in the loft tomorrow (but I might get sidetracked if I come across my old yarn and patterns that are stored up there!). I have sold some of my patterns that I don't need any more, but they don't go for much on ebay. Some of them date back to the early 60's when I first started knitting!Landgirl0
