Sorry the excitement of bargain wool has gone to my head....Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
I have tried putting the wool in the basket but the multi save does not show. I have not shopped with them before so dont know if this is normal. I have also tried their 'contact us' e-mail but it keeps throwing me out?:j0

Hi I have been reading this knitting board with interest so have come out of lurking mode!
I used to knit a lot when the kids were little, but now hardly do any apart from the odd g'childs cardi now and then. But now we are going to have a new baby in family will look at my old matinee patterns so those and this thread might get me started again! Trouble is I love doing cross stitch as well so it will be a bit of a tussle as too which I do.
There was a question posted quite a while back (page 2/3 I think)asking if anybody knew what to do about the problem with stocking stitch cardis and making the button band....but how do you solve the problem of it curling under? Nobody answered this so it was either overlooked or nobody knew either!! The only way that I have got around this problem is to have a pattern going down the edge so that stocking stitch is not next to the button band or a moss stitch band.
I hope somebody will be able to come up with an answer :0)0 -
Hi Pennib...did you see the posts where they knit the button band as they go...
So pleased you have de-lurked. :jOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
Thanks for the reply Whatatwit.
Yes I have read the complete thread it took a couple of evenings tho ;0) and did see that tip BUT as the band is still in stocking stitch would it still curl under? Also if its done on the same needles wouldn't it be a bit baggy? I have also tried doing it sideways (if you know what I mean)picking up stitches along the length which did help a bit. A lot of the French mags seem to prefer this method when I was reeeaaalllly into knitting in a big way, but that was years ago.
I found it particularly frustrating when knitting ladies cardis as I always had to fasten them up as the sides would just curl under.0 -
Lidl also have an offer on wool/cotton later this week, can't remember price which is in euro anyway, never sure about their offers as you have to check the stuff to see how much is in it they never say in adverts. Will try not to buy any until I have the stuff I bought in November done, although that stuff on Wilkinson's looked like great value, even when I convert to euro and pay for postage...must resist as money is being squeezed here at present and I have none to spare!
Good knitting to all..

Hi Everyone
Great forum. I don't post a lot however spend a lot of time reading and picking up hints and tips (old style). Thanks everyone. I have been following the knitters thread for a few weeks and would quite like to try knitting again in 2008. (Not done any for 20 years). Thinking of doing a couple of scarves for Xmas pressies and would also like to try a couple of beanie hats. Can anyone advise on cheapest place to purchase wool as I am wanting to keep the cost as low as possible.
Thanks in advance and best wishes to you all for 2008.
