I love the cushion. Thank you for this. Would never do a traditional Union Jack, but my mind is already thinking purples? greens? Lovely

I think it was Laura Ashley who had a lovely muted sagey green Union Jack cushion. I'm sticking with the grey-browns, though, because the colours will go with our sofas.

Orkneystar - love the sock!! must knit some more socks this year. I just love all the wonderful self patterning sock yarns. I've been using them to make squares for a blanket.

    Welcome. Lurk no more!

I am hoping to start doing some preemie knits in a few weeks time. You could always start with the little blankets.

I think we all suffer from finishitus. My rule is to have only three things on the go. The only incentive I can offer is the joy of a finished piece of work. Then I have to put it on a hanger and look at it as I pass. It then changes from being a pile of knitting sewn up to a garment. My son tells me it's the same as painting, it needs to change from the subjective to the objective. That's what you get for sending them to uni! I think I know what he means though.

I find I am always very critical of a piece when I have finished it.:( If I look at it in passing a few times a day, it seems to get better. :)Also helps with thinking about what buttons/trims to use etc.

    Waffle over!

I'd really like to knit simple things for preemies, just not sure if my knitting is good enough.

My knitting isn't brilliant but I still knit for preemies :) I'm sure you'd be fine!

I've just finished this cardigan, which was really easy: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rectangle-garter-baby-cardigan

Thanks for all the comments on the sock!
It really is an easy pattern from ravelry, actually if it looks kind of familiar it is because we have seen the pattern on this thread before, though not from me!
TBH I am a bit of a selfish sock knitter, as I want to stock up with some, but I do knit other things for family!

NannyJanny the baktus is great, lovely colours, well done!

    It's quiet on here!

Eventually finished my traditional Guernsey sweater for my grandson.
The pattern is from Seahouses, about 40 miles away, and where my sister lives.

Navy was bad to knit at night and see the pattern. It looks a different colour when I used the flash to show the pattern.

Good Sunday morning everyone. Thinking you might train for the marathon next year? No, nor me. Feeling very couch potato like watching all those fit people.
it's quiet on here cos we're all over there! Have to get more people on to Ravelry, as well as here.

I've been a lurker for a long time, and didn't like to intrude but I must say you have all given me a lot of pleasure with the patterns you have provided links for, and the photos of your knits. I am a very mediocre knitter, I must admit, but since retiring, I felt I'd like to try and be more creative, but I am a "starter" not a "finisher" - perhaps admitting it publicly will shame me into sewing up the wee bootees I have knitted, not to mention the Hello Kitty, the doggie tea cosy....oh, and what about the easter egg covers without the eyes? :o

I'd really like to knit simple things for preemies, just not sure if my knitting is good enough.

I`m sure no-one thinks you are intruding - I only pop in here now and again (I`m usually over on the knit a square thread) and everyone seems very friendly.

You are definitely not alone when it comes to starting but not finishing projects. I have several things waiting to be sewn up, have buttons sewn on, have ends sewn in. Do you get the feeling I prefer knitting to sewing ;)

I`m sure you knitting will be just fine for preemies. Choose an easy pattern to start with and don`t be surprised how small it turns out to be. Some of them are really tiny and you wonder how they could fit a baby, but they do, in fact sometimes they are still too big.

I remember when my first granddaughter was born, there was a mad panic to knit a few cardies for her as everything I`d already done was far too big and the ones you could buy in Mother**** were about a fiver each !!! Did quite a few for her with a fivers worth of yarn.

The beauty of doing prem things is they are so quick to do. I`m doing a cardigan for myself just now which is sooooo big it`s getting boring and I have to do something little in between to keep the boredom at bay.

I am terrible for starting but not fininshing.

I have found a partial solution, however, which is not to buy any more wool, which limits me a little.

ATM I have 4 of these owlet jumpers on the go http://needled.wordpress.com/designs/ one per child and then another one for whoever it fits when its finally finished...one of these tiny tea leaves http://www.madelinetosh.com/store/proddetail.php?prod=tinytealeavescardi a strawberry hat for my 7 year old who thinks that other kinds of hat are silly and then 5 crocheted egg cosies for easter (this obviously shouldn't take long but somehow is).

When I've done all those I'll only have enough wool left for probably two adult sized jumpers...so I'll have to make those...

the other thing I do to avoid fininshing is to minimse what fininshing is required, so I knit in the round, often from the top down, use the elizabeth zimmerman method for raglan sleeves, and so on. Its nice to finish the knitting and then have only minimal sewing to do (actually, I usually finish the knitting and then finish the sewing after the garment has been worn a few times and I can stand it no more).

Great makes everyone. I never thought I would ever say this but I'm actually enjoying sewing up. I discovered some tutorials on you tube and I think because I'm doing it properly and it looks good it has become fun... not that I'm suggesting you send me your unfinished projects :) I've just finished a pair of baby shoes for a card I'm doing so I'll post some pics once I've dug out the camera.
