dec one st at raglan edge (k2tog, knit to last 3sts, k2tog, k1) in every foll alt row 29 times, then in every row 5 times, AT SAME TIME dec one st at beg (front edge) in every foll 4th row 7 times, then in every foll 6th row 5 times ... 2 stitches
    Next row k2tog Fasten off.

I am only a novice knitter myself, but I would say that everything before AT THE SAME TIME is instructions for the decrease at the raglan end of the sleeve, and everything after is instructions for the decrease at the other end of the garment.

So you will k2tog, knit to last 3sts, k2tog, k1 at the end of every row for 29 rows (decreasing a total of 58 stitches)
    AT THE SAME TIME

    dec one st at beg of rows 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28
also dec one st at beg of rows 6, 12, 18, 24 30 (decreasing a total of 12 stitches)

You are starting with 48 stitches, but that is a total decrease of 70 stitches and you are supposed to be left with 2.
    Very odd

I have asked on another forum, so watch this space!

  • Hi, Knitters!

Just joined this forum - glad to see there might be some frugal knitters hereabouts!

I'm knitting for babies and toddlers in a Chinese orphanage - they want leggings and snug tops as the babies get so cold.

Can anyone help me track down a pattern for an infant's jumper with an 'envelope' neck? I had one years ago, which gives a snug fit around the neck, but it's gone AWOL. (I also had one that had buttons on the shoulders but that, too, is missing!)

    Many thanks!

Without seeing the pattern it would seem that you should only be decreasing on the raglan side for the first decrease….thus k2tog knit to end of row……the decreases at the end of the row dont start until you get to the 4th row.

    Hi Ladies,
I am currently knitting my first big garment having only knitted baby things and scarves before and I am really stuck on a part of my pattern and wondered if anyone could help me please?
I am on the right front of the cardigan, shaping the front slope and the pattern reads ( 48 stitches on needle)
dec one st at raglan edge (k2tog, knit to last 3sts, k2tog, k1) in every foll alt row 29 times, then in every row 5 times, AT SAME TIME dec one st at beg (front edge) in every foll 4th row 7 times, then in every foll 6th row 5 times ... 2 stitches
    Next row k2tog Fasten off.
The capitals and bold bits are as on the pattern. I have got nearly to the top but have got too many stitches left! I have had 3 women at my sewing group trying to help me and they are all experienced knitters. They say the pattern is badly written. It's from a Patons easy knits book.
    Hope someone can help!

It's that k2tog that make it wrong, I would say the bracket is in the wrong place

    Arm edge Dec 1st 29x
    arm edge Dec 1st 5x
    neck edge dec 1st 7x
    neck edge dec 1st 5x
equals 46sts leaving the 2 to ktog

    Hope this helps :)

I am on the right front of the cardigan, shaping the front slope and the pattern reads It starts with: Next row k2tog, knit to last 3sts, k2tog, k1 48 sts
dec one st at raglan edge (as before) in every foll alt row 29 times, then in every row 5 times, AT SAME TIME dec one st at beg (front edge) in every foll 4th row 7 times, then in every foll 6th row 5 times ... 2 stitches
    Next row k2tog Fasten off.

I have read the pattern again and I have written the first lot of instructions rather confusingly.:o So I have re written them. I'm not sure it would make any difference but would be very grateful if you could have another look please:o
Many thanks to anakat and cuddles:A

Think it should read like this

dec one st at raglan edge by k2tog, in every foll alt row 29 times,
AT SAME TIME dec one st at beg (front edge) in every foll 4th row 7 times, then in every foll 6th row 5 times ... 2 stitches
    Next row k2tog Fasten off.

i was wondering if anyone has bought and completed a get knitting set to make pink fluffy slippers. its supposed to be a start from beginners thing but it might as well be in japanese. a whole page is devoted to wrapping wool arounf hand which i dont understand. then theres ome light on it all. i have one ball of eyelash yarn and a bigger ball of fleece wool but i dont see where you use one then the other. well in fact i understand very little and was hoping someone on here who has completed one may be able to throw some light on it all, i could type the whole thing on here but dont want to make thread longer if i dont need to and there is alot of information. hope someone can help as they really are sweet looking and the sort of thing you could make again and again as nothing special in kit besides the wool and a pair of insoles. heres hoping?
