  • My husband drew it for me. I may still have the pattern. I'll have a hunt for it.

I found the skull and crossbones pattern as requested. I have taken a piccy (in the link below).

    http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg54/knittingspider/Skullandcrossbonespattern.jpg

I am not sure how clear this is so I have written out the pattern below too. Drawn on graph paper this pattern is 26 squares wide by 22 squares high. Draw this starting at row 1 at the bottom up to row 22 at the top. Each row as described below starts at the right hand side when you are drawing this. Each letter represents a stitch so 4B = 4 background coloured stitches.

    B= background colour
    M = main colour

    (row 1) 2b, 2m, 6b, 6m, 6b, 2m, 2b
    (row 2) 2b, 2m, 5b, 8m, 5b, 2m, 2b
    (row 3) 4m, 4b, 2m, 6b, 2m, 4b, 4m
    (row 4) 5m, 3b, 1m, 8b, 1m, 3b, 5m
    (row 5) 3b, 3m, 4b, 6m, 4b, 3m, 3b
    (row 6) 4b, 3m, 1b, 10m, 1b, 3m, 4b
    (row 7) 5b, 6m, 4b, 6m, 5b
    (row 8) 6b, 6m, 2b, 6m, 6b
    (row 9) 7b, 5m, 2b, 5m, 7b
    (row 10) 6b, 14m, 6b
    (row 11) 6b, 3m, 3b, 2m, 3b, 3m, 6b
    (row 12) 6b, 2m, 4b, 2m, 4b, 2m, 6b
    (row 13) 6b, 2m, 3b, 4m, 3b, 2m, 6b
    (row 14) 6b, 2m, 2b, 6m, 2b, 2m, 6b
    (row 15) 6b, 14m, 6b
    (row 16) 5b, 16m, 5b
    (row 17) 4b, 18m, 4b
    (row 18) 3b, 3m, 1b, 12m, 1b, 3m, 3b
    (row 19) 5m, 2b, 12m, 2b, 5m
    (row 20) 4m, 4b, 10m, 4b, 4m
    (row 21) 2b, 2m, 5b, 8m, 5b, 2m, 2b
    (row 22) 2b, 2m, 7b, 4m, 7b, 2m, 2b

I hope I have got that all typed out correctly :)

I knitted this in stocking stitch and it turned out OK.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
  • I thought you might like to see what I am currently working on. I have not been able to take any piccies until today as I am off work with a very poorly leg. I am finally a bit more mobile today on my crutches so I could get the camera out.

This is a present for my mother-in-law. It will be their 50th wedding aniversary in March. So I am knitting this for her and we have bought a posh silk tie and some nice cufflinks for my father-in-law.

The shawl will need blocking properly to set the pattern when I have finished knitting it. It is knitted in 2-ply wool from rare breeds sheep which are kept by a lady in my village. So I can even go and see the sheep by popping outside. :)

I have knitted this before. Here is a piccy of one that I made for myself some time ago after it has been blocked. You can see the pattern better in this one.

Spider Your shawl is gorgeous - and I love the fact that you can see the sheep that the wool came from

Hi - I think you are not knitting across all 15 stiches when you have to knit a full row

You knit across all 15 stitches then start again (at the other end so to speak) with the k2 turn k2.

    Hope that helps.
You are right, I don't think I have the hang of this 'turn' thing :o
Just can't seem to get my head around it. I've been looking for a Utube tutorial ... and can't even find that!!!

Hi CandyB101- I have just finished the curly scarf and it looks brilliant! "ahem" she says modestly!
i couldn't get my head round it at first
you knit 2 stitches turn and knit (not purl)them back
knit 4 stitches turn and knit 4 back(not purl)
knit 6 stitches turn and knit 6 back(not purl)
then knit one row of 15 stitches
then you start again from the other side
    knit 2 turn knit 2 back(not purl)
    knit 4 turn knit 4 back(not purl)
    knit 6 turn knit 6 back(not purl
then knit 1 row of all 15 stitches
It is like knitting a little garter stitch triangle on one side then knitting a whole row and knitting another triangle on the other side then knitting a whole row
I sewed the split bit at the ends of my scarf together to make it look a bit neater and less like legs!
Now I want to get a nice wooden brooch or shawl pin to wear with it .And once you've got the hang of it it knits really quickly :)
Hope i haven't confused you more!
off to get some more wool tomorrow so i can start knitting them for xmas presents :-D

Hi SuziQ1962 ........ That's what I seemed to have, the 2 triangles, maybe I was kind of going in the right direction after all.
I'll have to give it another try.

Knitting them for christmas presents, a lovely idea.
I'll probably still be here by then, trying to figure it out, lol.

I haven't got started again yet, hopefully DD will be staying at my auntie's tonight, so maybe without the interruptions from a 6 year old, I might be able to concentrate more.

Not sure if this will co-ordinate with the hat, but this pattern is knitted in garter stitch on larger needles and in fact uses the short row technique.

I have knitted a few of these for my husband and he loves them.

For those knitting the Spiral Scarf, yes it does look odd and like a W at first

    100_6957.jpg

But after a few repeats it does start to twirl

    Hope this helps
