I do like this thread:), such lovely people and no-one makes novices feel stupid!
All this talk of socks, set me thinking: Has anyone seen/devised a pattern to go inside Crocs? I've seen them with fleecy liners but I'm reluctant to buy them as there's nothing wrong with my 'summer' pair.
I might try socks myself at some point. I'd love a chunky pair to go under my knee-length boots with a good cuff at the top. Any recommendations?
I'm still knitting a draught excluder to match my cable cushion at the moment. Unfortunately my IT skills aren't good enough to post pics yet, but I intend to learn (anyone got a tutorial for that?:o)0 -

Oh so happy found this thread again, popped in last year then forgot about it as after many years of knitting - am 54, knitted my first pair of socks for a friend for Christmas, she wanted thickish socks and couldn't find any and asked if I could knit her a pair, told her never had, so she thought that meant I wouldn't and surprised her, and they fit. Found a simple pattern for aran weight yarn, but then hubby fell in love with then and wants a pair, in the same yarn, so started to knit but found he has very very slim ankles and calves for a man, and when I get foot right they are to big on leg - also he likes sock just to bottom of his calves, if he wore them a bit higher they most likely would stay up. I had decided I just couldn't do it after trying 10 different patterns, so told him no way sorry can knit anything else and have done, but not socks for him, I admitted defeat - for the moment anyway. Then I come here and find all these fascinating facts on socks and plenty of links to go to for help. I think hubby might just get his socks after all -thanks . Perfect timing as well as just finished a hat for a friend so this now will be next thing after I do a bit of studyNeed to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Hiya
Am not sure if there is a thread with the relevant info on it, I'm sure someone will pop along who will know these things, but in the meantime, are these links any use to you?

Then there is always Yell.com
and a Google search.
I have a nightmare trying to find anything near me, rumour tells me there is lots, but no evidence, no websites, no newspaper stuff. Just 3 LYS (2 of those are not so local) and Manchester City Centre :eek::eek:
Scary stuff that Manchester business hah hah!
(am not one for crowds!)

Everyone seems to be getting on really well, and I'm glad I'm not the only novice on here!
I just finished my first ever garment *huge, proud grin* It's only a shrug type thing, but it's the first non-accessory thing I've made and I'm so proud of myself!
Can't post pics at the minute as I'm at work (shh!), but they're on my blog (which I don't seem to be able to get to save in the damn user cp *frowns*)Nobody I'd rather be0 -

Thanks so much for those links, I'll have a look now xx
Been googling shops around me but after trips to nowhere (i.e. where the shop was apparently located but wasn't) I gave up
There's one near me but they only have posh yarns, like £5+ per ball
Been signed off work for further 2 weeks so will be knitting loads but I don't "do" very expensive yarn - as long as it's washable, I'm happy with it
I'm in Sussex so if anyone has any recommendations I'll be very grateful0
