So basically you are still only ever knitting with 2 needles - you ignore the other 2 when you are not using them.
I've never used a circular needle but I see Silver has a tutorial for using that too.
I am doing cabling with dpns just now....four needles and a cable too- a bit tricy at first but easy enough once you get used to it....is socks....will post a pic in a min! x
ETA this is now frogged- well actually unravelled as far as I coukld and the rest (which tied itself in knots) been dumped!....it was driving me nuts........I was dreading picking it up and knitting should be FUN!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

I'm a basic knitter and never tried, essentially because if I make a mistake or need to pull back I get into a terrible mess.
I have bought a circular needle, but never tried it yet.
Would it work for the Spiral Socks?
No idea if circular and 4 needles work out the same.
I am not that keen on circulars, even though I have used them in the past, and have knitted a couple of patterns on double pointers where it said to use circulars (I imagine it would be fine for hats, cowls, socks, that sort of thing). Circulars are often used for shawls (but not knitted 'in the round' just back and forth) and so I don't think you could substitute double pointers there!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

No I know
Knitting is confusing........my best tip is learn a skill at a time, and accept that some things are less pleasing (to do and as finished objects) than others.
I like the effect of cables so the faff is worth it to make, whereas I have yet to feel the same way about using circulars....I WILL though! I love socks, using dpn's and fine sock wools such as Regia and Opal, but also love big chunky wools and needles too!
TBH I if I wanted colour in cabled gloves I would do one colour cuff (ribbed), then cable part in another colour, and on other glove I would do colours opposite way round......save changing colours through rib but still more than one colour ?
ETA the cables on your mug thingies are very good- really neat....x

Oh - never thought of doing it like that!
I am currently keeping my fingers crossed that I have enough wool to finish my second wrist warmer in purple chunky wool and cable. Have added black rib at one end.
Is there a formula to work out if you have sufficient yarn? Seem to remember something like 2 x row length per row?Jack of all trades ... Master of none
