I used a spare double-pointed needle (?) when I did cable pattern recently but then found the 'bent' ones in Lidl. It does stop stitches falling off but a bit awkward too to move the stitches along. Horses for courses I suppose.0 -
Have just finished a second pair of these
from this site http://whitegirlknits.blogspot.com/2010/12/pattern-magical-fingerless-mittens.html They are so easy to do and i think the colours look great together. I'm not a great knitter so if I can do them anyone can

Thanks everyone.
I've bought Knit Today for the free booklet and needles (bent) and borrowed a straight needle to try, so I'll see which I prefer.
Just need to find a nice simple pattern now.
Was thinking Wrist Warmers with a cable up the middle.
May be doing a bit of knitting for a couple of days. Just fallen on the ice and really hurt my knee - can see the bruise and swelling happening, so may be resting it for a while.Jack of all trades ... Master of none

I'd like to try doing some cable as well but it looks confusing! Lots of patterns here, scroll down to cable fingerless mittens.

Hope the knee gets better soon.

Regarding types of wool it is hard to say, although if they wanted to eat the fur then perhaps nothing too fluffy ? My DS likes the feel of fluff and picks it off things- he does not have any learning difficulties, just likes the feel of it! As a result he tries to get me to knit him things in fluffier wool!

Hello everybody!
Years ago I used to knit a lot of clothes, aran, fair isle etc. but haven't done any for about 20 years. I've suddenly got the urge to knit again and one of the things I'd like to do again, just to get started is spiral no-heel socks. I found the pattern in a self-sufficiency magazine about 25 years ago. It is very simple, a rib on two needles and works by 'moving' the knitting to the right by one stitch on each line. You end up with a parallelogram (a sloping rectangle) which you stitch up and end up with a sock with a spiral join and no heel, but very comfortable.
Does anyone have an actual pattern I could use?
Thank you.0 -
Hi Denimmaterial
Sounds like you are a fantastic knitter! I'm not sure what kind of thing you're after exactly - is it for socks in general or the spiral no-heel kind? They sound very interesting. I'm just a beginner and I'm using Silver's tutorial for making socks on 4 dpns but sounds like you might want something fancier. So sit tight and I'm sure someone will advise.:)Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Hi denimmaterial, and welcome. As NualaBuala has just said, I'm not sure what you are doing, but would any of these links be of any use to you?
