Hello all, don't know if this is the right place or if any of you are interested but here is a link to Quidco which has an offer until 31st December for 5 issues of Let's Knit for £5 plus 15% cashback. I have no idea if that magazine is any good, but I am going to go for the offer myself. Hope this is helpful, and that you all have a happy Christmas and a creative New Year.

I can see Knit Today on that link but not Let's Knit - am I being blind or is that the one you mean?
Thanks for the link BTW, am going to order Knit Today anyway but if there's Let's Knit available as well it would just be plain rude not to do both!
ETA Just tried and it's not available for the UK. Bummer!
Another edit - use the link with code Y075 to get 3 issues for £1.Oh dear, here we go again.0 -

Sorry about that - it is Knit Today, and I'm really sorry I posted before I did it for myself. I wonder why it is not available in the UK - and well done for the other code! :j0 -
Hope everyone had a good Christmas.
I am a very basic knitter, but would like to try some simple cable. Can anyone recommend any tutorials, give any advice or recommend which cable needles to buy please? Never realised there were different types.Jack of all trades ... Master of none

Hi Cuddles....I wouldn't be the best one to advise you on cable needles...I don't use one when doing cables, just drop the stitches and pick them back up, as when I used a needle I kept losing them. If it is any consolation to you I have been knitting for 60 years and didn't know that there was more than one type of cable needle!
good luck with your cables....someone with more brain power will no doubt be along to advise you soon!

Thanks Errata.
Just need to decide what kind of cable needle to buy as it seems to come down to personal choice. Not easy when you haven't tried any of them!Jack of all trades ... Master of none

The needles come in different sizes just like with knitting needles and so getting a selection of the most useful sizes would be a good start.
I would probably buy 3mm, 4mm and 5mm if you like knitting lightweight items with 4ply or double knit wool, or 4mm, 5mm and 6mm / 7mm if you prefer knitting with double or aran weight wool.
Also, you can get straight or bent cable needles. The bent needles are shaped a bit like the wooden part of a hunting bow (the only way I can think of describing them). For a beginner I would start off with the bent style ones as there is less chance of stitches sliding off the cable needle when in use.
Don't forget cabling will make the item you are knitting narrower so if you took a pattern for a jumper knitted in stocking stitch and then added in a few cables the jumper would knit up narrower than in just straight stocking stitch.0 -
I find cable needles with a bend in the middle the best. I have two sizes- one to use for 4mm and below and one for up to about 6 or 7mm....never done cables bigger than that! Apparently you can use a spare dpn as a cable needle if you don't have the right size.
