Thank you so much...final question on this one ( I think!!) The pattern asks for 'removable stitch markers'. Are there special stitch markers, or do they mean a length of contrasting coloured yarn, as I have always used before?

My wool arrived today to stitch my snood ! :j Its a lovely shade of blue
I doubt it will progress much beyond me casting on, knitting a few rows and giving up but I will at least give it a go !
I have a question though - as I posted previously, I am a rubbish knitter. By this I mean, I was taught in my mid teens, was nevery very good, didn't do it for many years, was re-taught probably about 8 years ago by a work colleague and self-taught probably 2/3 years ago.
Anyway, I'm going to give it a go again, try my snood, knit the leg warmers I bought the pattern for (last year sometime) :rotfl:.and generally see if I can get the knitting bug once and for all !
can you help me make up my mind about something ??? I have some Te$co clubc$rd vouchers burning a hole in my pocket, I am thinking of getting a subscription to the magazine. Is the magazine suited for someone like me ? i.e. someone who is hopeless at knitting but would like to improve ?0 -

Speaking for myself I had the same thought, but then I thought that this thread and all the websites with free patterns are such a good resource it seems a waste of vouchers. Having said that, isn't it today that they go from X4 to X3 so if you've got nothing else in mind you could just subscribe for the year because it's really exciting when a magazine drops through the door (or is that just me?) Let us know what you decide!0 -

yes I bit the bullet and have ordered the subscription to Simply Knitting. :j
I wasn't sure what to do - earlier in the year I used my vouchers and got a subscription to good food and country walking magazine. I always used to spend my vouchers in store which of course isn't getting the best value for them.
I was doing one final check of the mags on offer the other day when I spotted simply knitting and since the knitting bug has bitten me once again, I decided to treat myself. I had gone over the voucher deals with a fine tooth comb but there was nothing that appealed so was intending to spend the vouchers on xmas treats in store. At least with the mag, I will have it dropping on my door for the next year :j so will last me and will be nice to look forward to each month0 -
Well hello peeps!
Not posted for a while but been lurking!
Finished my wristwarmers last night (not the sock wool ones- still only one of them done as they take a while!)- pic on ravelry if anyone interested.
Did a bit more of the fuzzy scarf last night as wanted something simple.....looks like we will be doing a lot of walking today- not really decent driving weather (more snow last night, not a lot but enough to make getting out of parking bay nearly impossible!), so not sure how much knitting I will squeeze in! Think it will be DS cardi if I get any time!
Anyhow, hope everyone is doing ok.

Hello again Orkney Star - great to see you again! I've been thinking about you in this weather. We're still snowed in (since a week past Friday) but we don't have a 4x4. We've woken up today to another load of snow, it's a blizzard and the sky is full of it. Safe and warm is the order of the day!
On the knitting front I've managed (after a few hiccups) to turn the heel on the first sock and I'm now just knitting for the length of the foot. I'm only doing a bit at a time because it's for my husband's Christmas and I don't want to be knitting it in front of him!
I've knitted a couple of gonks, but no pictures because I can't get out to get the stuffing.
I'm still ploughing through my King Cole Riot jumper.
Anyway, everyone have a good day - and stay safe and warm!0 -

Well done on the sock heel turning- takes a while to get your head round it I think but then it just clicks! Will love to see these when they are finished too!
I am still thinking what I can make for hubby- socks will take a while as he has biggish feet, he did say he'd like a neck warmer but wonder if he would look silly ? I have a blue chunky wool that might do ?
Anyway better head off- need to go back and collect DS soon....just not long back from taking him to nursery and got caught in big snow shower....coming on again .

I do a long tail cast on (one needle and thumb) for most things but will do a cast on with two needles if the pattern instructs me to.
I wish I was at home knitting right now, my brain has turned to mush of late and I can hardly concentrate on anything. Perhaps I'd be better in bed even!
I'm starting to get into a pre-Christmas knitting panic as well so I really need to focus on my gift knits and getting those done ahead of all the things I keep thinking about knitting for myself.
I have only ever been taught how to cast on with two needles (and will need to read up / refresh myself on how to do this). A pattern I like suggested I needed to use the thumb knit cast on which I have viewed on you tube and have managed but I have just tried to do long tail cast (as the pattern says i need a long tail - so thing this is the cast on method i need) but I have failed hopelessly. I have watched one video and started to watch another but I'm very tired so think it best not to try any more tonight as will get very frustrated and cross ! is long tail cast on that confusing or is it just me. excuse the pun but it seems all fingers and thumbs ? I bought a knitting book which seems to cover everything to do with knitting but certainly being able to watch someone do it is helping but Im still very confused.0
