hi, i'm going to unpick my first jumper attempt that i made for OH, as its gone rather baggy and it looks like we could both get in it!!
i only made it a couple of months ago, but i just wondered if there was a knack to unpicking it, and is there anything i should do before i use the wool again?
ie should i wash the jumper THEN unpick it, or do i unpick it and THEN wash the wool when i've wound it back into balls?
and is there a right way and a wrong way to unpick it?
jeez....i've only just mastered knitting again after 20 odd yrs, and now i got to learn how to unpick all my hard work lol!!
i've knitted 2 more jumpers after this one, so i know now where i went wrong with the mahoosive one.....should have checked my tension....duh!!!0 -
my mum did this to straighten curly unpicked wool:
Wind round and round the back of a kitchen chair, then tie a few loops of wool to keep the skein intact. Wash very gently and roll in a towel then hang to dry with some weight on the bottom of the loop0 -

I've also done it that way, except I spin dry and then tumble dry. It comes up like new......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

On a piece of stocking-stitch, you would usually slip the first stitch knit-wise on every row, regardless of whether the rest of the row was k or p. Some knitters would also knit the last stitch, even on the purl rows. On the pattern you've linked to, I'd slip the first stitch of every row knit-wise. In general, if a pattern wants you to slip a stitch purl-wise, it will say so - i.e. "slip the stitch" is taken to mean do it knit-wise.
Thanks blueberrypie. That makes sense. Think i might be trying to make things more complicated0 -

Hello ladies (I think it's all ladies??). You may remember me asking advice when I started my Aran cushion a couple of weeks ago. Well it's all knitted, all I need to do now is make it up and add tassels to the corners. I've thoroughly enjoyed doing it and will be starting my next project soon.
Question(s) Do I need to press it before making up and if so how? What sort of stitch should I use for sewing the seams? TIA0
