Hi, hope you don't mind me popping on to ask a question. My husband has asked me to knit him a scarf - I can knit a bit but nothing fancy. Can anyone recommend a good pattern and what is a good wool to use? He wants it to be soft and warm and said fairly fine guage - knows what he wants doesn't he :D.

    Many thanks.

I want to make a snood now for a 3 year old child and with the same dk wool. Can anyone help with a pattern please

You'll enjoy knitting 2 ply on size 14 needles, it'll keep you occupied for most of 2011

Right, methinks I should dissuade him from too fine a guage then! Thank you.

Hi mumof2, I started knitting up a chunky wool scarf last night and it's lovely how quickly it knits up. Especially if you haven't knitted for a while you'll want to see your results quickly... Go for persuading him that a chunky scarf is all the fashion ;)

You could get some lovely chunky yarn to maybe knit up on 7mm needles.

    Shape neck and right front

use 4mm needles cast on 50 st.

    1st row.(neck edge)KNIT

Starting with a purl row work 6 rows in st-st.

Work 4 rows inc 1 st at neck edge on every row (54 st)

I can usually knit anything but this has me stumped.

    replied elsewhere.. but..

Work the 7 rows st-st.. lay the worked bit flat on your front and the top bit near your neck is where you increase in rows 8-11.

Since my last post here I have managed to complete a baby cardy, a cardy for my 6 y/o and a blanket for the dolls pram for DD4 for christmas.. and made a start on one for DD5.. Both need a flower to go on, but I need black yarn for those. I also have my next 6 projects on my list.. chunky cardy for DD4, variagated pink cardies x2 for the baby for next spring/summer I think.. , a hat for DD5 to match her cardy and a red aran jumper each for DD4 and DD5..

I am going to have to learn to knit in the car on the looooong drives to the outlaws I just get awfully travel sick if I do anything but sleep or gawp out of the window.
