i've just finished knitting my first jumper for OH a couple of weeks ago, but its gone all baggy around the bottom.....i know it will have been the way i cast on, as i used the 2 needle method, then knit into the back of every stitch (found a better way now thank god!)

anyway is there anything i can do to make it tight again, as its putting him off wearing it now it looks baggy :( and i'm loving knitting, so i dnt want to be put off thinking all my stuff's going to end up baggy like this :o

You could try sewing shirring elastic around it. Don't pull it too tight.

Another way of sorting out the problem is to unravel the welt from the bottom up and reknit it casting off firmly using the normal cast off method. Not easy, but it can be done.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Thanks for the Drops Fabel suggestion, it looks like a lovely wool and is much cheaper than Regia. Unfortunatley I don't have a decent LYS so I'll have to pay p&p, but even so it's still an excellent buy.
Oh dear, here we go again.

Does anyone have any ideas where I can get reasonably priced or cheap big wools and super chunkies on the internet at the moment? The kind that need size 10mm plus needles. I'm looking to do a massive cable blanket for someone's Christmas present but I feel completely lost when I start searching the net for wool. It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

Do any of you have any favourite shopping places?

I don't know about those particular wools but I'm sure someone else will advise.
I like Kemps for cheap wool but I sometimes find it hard to pick out what I want, I think it's best when you already know what you want.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)

Ooooooo....thank you! Went and had a look and found some super chunkies hiding in there that need 10mm needles.

    Hello
I have shelved my socks as I wanted to crack on with making dd a ballerina rabbit for her stocking. The rabbit is no problem as I have made this pattern before but I am so stuck on the cardigan (have attempted it 3 times, the first two ending up in the bin :() As I am relatively new to knitting I hesitate to blame the pattern but I wonder if there is a mistake ?
Could some of you more experienced peeps please just cast your eye over this and see what you think ...

You knit the back of the cardigan (28 stitches) k9 cast off 10 k9 which leaves you with a neck and two sides. Fine so far.

Work on last set of sts only for left front.
    Work 2 rows.
Next row p to last 2 sts, k2
    Next row k2, m1, k to end
    Next row p to last 2 sts, m1, k2
Rep last 2 rows 5 times more, then work first of the 2 rows again.
Mark side edge of last row.
Conc inc at front edge as before until there are 28 stitches.
    K4 rows.
    Cast off.

With wrong side facing, rejoin yarn to rem sts for RIGHT FRONT.
    Work 2 rows.
Next row k2, p to end
    Next row k to last 2 sts, m1, k2
    Next row k2, m1, k to end
Complete as given for first side.

ok so here are the questions

for the first side does rep last 2 rows 5 times more mean work both rows 5 times = 10 rows in total and then repeat the first = 11
    OR
treat each row individually ie, 1,2,1,2,1 plus first row again =6
    Does that question make sense?!!!
The pirture shows a smooth stocking stitch finish and I can't seem to work it so that there isn't a ridge of 'knit' in there.

For the second side I have highlighted a K which I think should be a p otherwise nothing makes sense?????

How do you mark the end of the row?

When told to p, m1, k2 do I m1 in purl then take yarn back to knit or bring yarn forward, m1 in knit then k2?

Heavens ... have just realised that this post doesn't make much sense but have spent ages typing so will post on the off chance that someone will be able to work out what I am rabbiting on about (pardon the pun :rotfl:)

    Thanks
