What lovely mittens, nuttywoman.
There are so many great, free or inexpensive patterns on Ravelry. :j0 -
Hi mandy_moo_1, thank you for your reply - so quick too! I can get on with the piece tonight then!
I was taught a little by mum in the 6 weeks holidays once when i was about 8 or so, maybe even younger, probably to keep me quiet for a bit! She taught me to cast on, the knit stitch and the purl stitch. Like i said, i never made anything, but it kept me quiet for ages knitting away, and then taking it apart and starting again because i wasnt happy with it! So i just used to knit in the holidays. Now i just want to knit loads of things! Started off with a lil baby hat, and now on with the cardigan which i think may have been a bit optimistic! Im going to get some nice chunky wool and make myself a simple scarf - if its any good ill make one for my mum for christams. Ive also got into sewing now on the machine and just dont want to be at work all day, want to be sewing and knitting!
What are you on with at the moment mandy_moo_1?0 -
thats just how i started nat!! i think i was about 5 when mum taught me....nearly 40yr ago lol!!
i knitted baby clothes when my children were babies...all grown up now tho!!
i started up again about 6weeks ago....i've knitted my daughter a scarf and 2 slouchy hats for when she's cold in her uni digs!! then i made about 5 other hats cos they were so easy to do, and then about 4 weeks ago i started a jumper for OH as well as a long cardi for myself (i have to have a couple of projects on the go or i get bored!!)
OH's jumper is oh so nearly finished!! its taken a heck of a lot of swearing this afternoon, when i had my first attempt at picking up stitches round the neck edge to make the polo neck....think i'll have to stitch up the couple of holes i can see where i must've missed a stitch lol!! so all i've got to do now is knit 5" of ribbing for the neck, and stitch it all together....i cant believe i actually finished something.....only thing is....i didnt use the wool specified in the pattern, i used chunky with 6mm needles, so it looks as tho it'll fit both of us together!!
on my cardi i've done all the back and half of one of the fronts, but i'm itching to have a go at a cable jumper!! there's just not enough hours in the day lol!!0 -

Another barger inner :j
Been lurking around the boards for a couple of years, and just getting back on the old MSE wagon after a year!
Have just read through this thread, and WOW, so many ideas and experienced (and new like me) knitters.
Some of my FO's are fingerless mittens, an angel doll, hats, scarves, a baby cardigan...all simple stuff really.
I'm dying to start socks, but really nervous! I don't know whether to go with the DPN's or circular method, of the two which is easiest for a sock virgin?!
Also, concentration is a bit of an issue ATM, kids at home during daytime and then not enough light at night

Morning ladies
I have bought a lovely pure wool jumper from the charity shop to felt and have washed it twice at 60 degrees but it doesnt look as if it has felted enough. (bet it would have if I hadn't been trying:rotfl:)
So how many times do you need to wash things before they get stiffer? (clean responses only please!:o)
