Yes on the first row so when you start you are making the first two stitches look like a double stitch. Then when you get to Row 2 knit through both of them ( 1st double and 2 nd double) I gnerally do this for the first two stiches but you can do just one if you prefer. I find that it secures the stitch and it looks quite tidy. HTH0 -

Can anyone tell me what the freebies have been for the last few months? I see that the current issue comes with a biggish-size circular needle (not sure I'll ever use that).
Off the top of my head I've had dozens of different size needles, one pair bamboo but mainly plastic, some dpns, a little case which I've found useful for keeping my bits in, crochet needles, stitch holders, knitting needle roll, couple of balls of wool to knit one of the small projects inside and of course this time round is the circular needle.
I always thinks I'll never use some of them but I guess it's handy just in case you want to venture into something new. I guess if you think you really won't use any of them you could ebay them. They usually provide the freebie so you can knit one of the patterns in the magazine, this time being the hat and cape. I think the magazine is good enough in itself (I've found quite a few patterns I would like to have a go at if I had the time) and the freebies are just a bonus.
If anyone does decide to subscribe to it do the 3 month subscription at £11.95 as it works out cheaper than the 12 month option, unless of course you can find a special offer on it.Did owe £9,951.96

Hello. Please may I ask a silly question? I am knitting a jumper for the first time since the 80's (I think). Anyway, it says I have to 'continue without shaping until armholes measure 20 cm'.
I assume this means I measure straight up from the row of stitches where I started the armhole to the needle, rather than trying to curve the tape measure around the shaping for the armhole? Or do I measure at an angle from the start of the armhole up to the top in a straight line?
Sorry to be so thick but I'm very grateful for help. Thank you.0 -

Just measure from where you started the armhole straight up.

Thrifty - I subscribe to Simply Knitting and have done so for a couple of years. Do check it out because I much prefer it to Let's Knit:p A subscription is so much fun too. Sad though it may be, I get really excited about my Mag being delivered every month:D0 -
