I had a go at a little fair isle project last weekend as I've not knit colourwork before, it wasn't too tricky but think it will still take me a while to get used to carrying 2 colours, I'd like to learn to do it one colour in each hand but reeeeeeeally need to practice!! This is a fun way to practice though and will make nice little gifts to go in with Christmas cards should I feel so inclined. The pattern was free on the Little Cotton Rabbits blog and very well written. The yarn is Christmas sock yarn from Regia and has gold thread running through it for some Christmas sparkle.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

Ooh it's only little erm...maybe 3" or so from top to bottom. Might fit a teddy, you could always knit the same pattern on a larger needles so they'd come out bigger. There are other patterns on rav for dinky socks you could have a look atOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

OrkneyStar I suppose they'd be good then, it's a proper little sock pattern so they'd work depending on the size of the teddy

you all seem such a lovely lot, can you bunch up a bit so i can join? i am nowhere near experienced as some of you. but have made lots of baby clothes, the odd jumper or 2,few scarves in that funky spiky wool that was everywhere last year. 1 pair of mittens in aran wool to match a scarf pattern and wool bought in pack from m & s. problem is could have fit 2 hands and 2 feet in one of them. forsome reason my knitting always ends up too big. jumpers down to knee passed off as deliberate. am also 8 squares into a huge blanket made from a monthly magazine which gave you a new ball and new stitch every month. when i tried to sew first little lot and all squares were different sizes it ended up on the wardrobe in a box next to a half finished jumper was makingfor ds1 for xmas 2008 in a tweed kind of wool. have a stash like you all but only a small one as wool was so expensive that the pattern suggested so i bought bog standard dk and when i became upset at it not turning out as it should it went in another box on wardrobe. now i have about 10 50g balls of the chenille wool that was for sale in poundland 2 years ago and 11 50g balls of a basic dk bough on ebay. desperate to start knitting again in hope of stopping me eating and smoking too much in the evenings. have a funky few balls of the wool spoke about earlier that i could knit up a scarf for dd2 for but if any suggestions for the other stuff mentioned from anyone i would be there in a flash. word of warning i basically taught myself to knit from one of those janet and john type books there were around in the 70's so only basic knowledge although very proud of myself that i can cable. my main shortfall is i cant decrease when doing a pattern, i just cant figure out what stitch comes next. hope my waffling hasnt put you off, i will practise shorter posts i promise0

Hi homealone,
I know it`s tedious but I think your best bet would be knit a tension square so that you can change your needles to give you the correct result with your patterns. Sounds as if you are a slack knitter and would have to use smaller needles to get the size right.
Good luck with your stashbusting - mission impossible methinks if you are like the rest of us wool `collectors`.Fully paid up member of S.A.B.L.E.

Hello all,
Hope you don't mind me joining this thread. I love reading about the things other people are knitting. I just finished my first knitting project since I was a little girl - a massive scarf - 40 stitches across in Patons Silenzio Chunky and about six feet long!
Just a question for you. I'm knitting some stripy arm warmers for my friend's Halloween costume from the Knitty Gritty beginners' knitting book. The pattern has decorative eyelets for the sleeves which branch off into two eyelets for the hands - bit like a divining rod. One side of the eyelets looks great but the other line looks wonky. I followed the pattern so just wondered if anyone else had found this or if I'm doing something wrong?Total [STRIKE]5354.39[/STRIKE] 1/1/10
