That's some list lambanana! Is it for THIS Christmas?!! Cos It would take me till Christmas 2015 at the rate I'm going! :D Looking forward to seeing the finished shawl ... not long to go now!

    Yep...for this Christmas :rotfl:

As long as I finish the first two things I'm OK as that's all I've promised, the three pairs of socks would be for bonus points! I think I can do it though as long as the socks were just plain stockinette as that's bus knitting. Also I'm on my jollies next week and taking the lace scarf for MiL with me, I may even finish that whilst I'm away.

    I'm ever an optimist!

Well I'm super-impressed ... and glad I haven't promised knitted Christmas pressies! :) I'm sure they will be beautiful, I know I'd love to receive any of those as pressies.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)

  • Well MiL asked for the scarf and my mum asked for the shawl, I don't like to say no to either :rotfl:

Aha! Well my nearest and dearest know they'd be waiting a very long time - I guess that's why I don't get asked for stuff. :D I did knit a scarf for my sister one year and she still says it's her favourite pressie ever!

    OrkneyStar,
Could you tell me how many CO sts you did please.

    Thank You!
Here is the pattern to purchase- not sure it is right to give any more detail as it is a fairly new pattern, still on sale!

lambanana- I knitted for mum and sister last year- mum was so greatful, sister said thanks but was not that impressed I don't think, despite me having bought lovely wool and taken time to get a colour she suits etc.
So far have knitted a nice hat for mum, which will likely be for her birthday. Might also do her something silly like an animal, or maybe a neck warmer or something.

  • I have only just returned to knitting in the last few months but have become a bit of an addict.

I always have a pair of socks in my bag which I do at my knitting group (too busy talking to concentrate on a complicated pattern) or at lunchtime at work.
I have started a cardigan for my 1yo niece for christmas but my wool that I have ordered from kemps has arrived and I am going to knit a cushion cover and I know I should finish the cardigan first but my new wool is calling me :D

I have another cardigan and two pairs of dalek socks to knit for christmas as well.

  • mustbemad68 I'm addicted too! I've only been knitting for 2 years (not including learning as a child) and didn't really start knitting a lot until about a year ago but now I just can't stop! I've always got a few things on the go and always, always a sock in progress in my bag.

OrkneyStar I know my mum appreciates any knitting I do for her as she's a knitter herself and has been knitting for me for years. When I knit for her it's things she doesn't knit like lace and socks. My MiL had a scarf last year but it was a big, thick one and she specifically requested a more lightweight, lacy one this year. DH just likes handknit socks but as he wears a size 11 he is only ever going to get a pair at Christmas and a pair for birthdays!! Fortunately the two are exactly 6 months apart so he seems accepting of this arrangement.

    Hi Misstrella
New patterns are copyrighted and we don't want our OrkneyStar getting on the wrong side of the law! But in case you don't want to buy it (like me) here are loads of free patterns for neckwarmers if you google. Here's a link to Lionbrand's website - I'm thinking of doing one of the easy ones here.
    http://cache.lionbrand.com/cgi-bin/patternFinder.fcgi?search=Search&searchText=neck+warmer&I2.x=0&I2.y=0&I2=Search&craft=0&categoryKey=&subcategory=Any&size=&edition=&cost=Any&componentCategoryKey=Any&yarnClass=Any&searchType=0
Don't forget to post a piccie if you go ahead and do it!

I think you have hit a point there- fellow knitters may well appreciate knitted things more as they have more idea of the work involved! My mum knitted for us when we were young, in fact she started me on the basics. My sister always struggled with it, being left handed for some reason, she could not get the hang of plain/purl or turning the needles round!
My DH would like some nice socks too I think, he also has big feet, so we will see ;).
