The sock knitting is going on at a pace, I am on the secind of DD's socks, OH is in bed with a dizzy so I cannot do much, as my neighbour said yesterday I looked exhausted I plan to spend the morning sitting knitting. I cannot do my usual Monday bedroom clean, one bedroom is full of stuff from the sitting room waiting to get the stove fixed and the sewing room is also full of books and stuff from the bookcase.

I have aload of washing in, its going to have to go on the airer, by the looks of outside its going to rain, very dank and dull.

    Lovely scarf Kez :T

I haven't touched my knitting since I ripped back the sock I was making. I have to be in the right frame of mind for it. I've got a teacosy to sew up - won't take long but I'm not in the mood! I must make some pompoms for it - does anyone have a nice method for pompom-making? I forget how I did them last time - think I just wound the wool around my fingers.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)

I just wind the wool around my fingers too ;)

You have just reminded me that I need a tea cosy - need to find a simple pattern as I;m a novice knitter - anyone recommend one done on 2 needles?

I'm a beginner too ... have been a beginner for years now! :D

This is the pattern I used - it really is easy! Except I don't know how to crochet the little flowers for the top so I am doing pompoms instead. http://blog.rosahoban.co.uk/2009/07/traditional-tea-cosy.html I like it cos it's kind of old fashioned like the one we had when I was a child.

And there are lots more patterns here http://knittingpatterncentral.com/directory/cozies.php

NualaBuala - Thanks for the recommendation re: Ebay.

I went and had a mooch at the trader you recommended. Confession time, I caved and bought an entire set of needles rather that the one pair "just to try" I'd planned. They arrived very quickly, and considering I'm not on mainland UK either (Guernsey) I was amazed by how quickly they got here. I know you had a problem with some you'd ordered as they had a splinter, so I very carefully checked every pair when they arrived and they were all fine. Actually I was very pleased with the quality of them, even the very thin needles seemed sturdier than I had expected.

So I spent the weekend knitting on them and completely agree with everyone who's said they wouldn't go back to metal needles now. They are lovely to knit with. Which is good, because I'm having a bit of a fight trying to get my squares to actually turn out the same size in order to turn them into a blanket!

Jeanie, am glad your needles were good, I must have had a dud set. The price of those sets is great compared to buying them individually - hope you have many more hours of happy knitting! :)

Even though my needles were damaged, I was happy with the seller cos they arrived in Ireland just a few days after ordering and there was no hassle at all getting a refund - they don't even seem to want the damaged needles back. Am wondering what to do with them as it was a set of five and I reckon they might be good to someone. The splinter could be sanded and the other needles are ok I think. I've got another set that I'm using and it seems a shame to dump these.

  • I wonder if you can help me.
Is it possible to unravel something from the bottom and then pick the stitches up and start knitting again? So in affect you're knitting in the opposite direction to the rest of the item.

You can't unravel from the bottom, but you can cut and detach part of the item, then pick up the loops that are left on the bottom of the main bit and unravel the cut-off bit from the top down and re-use the yarn to knit downwards.
  • Hi all,

I'm a newbie on this thread :) I learned to knit as a kid but have only got into it properly in the last few years. Just trying my first proper lace pattern at the moment....it's certainly a challenge! Especially as I'm usually a total multi-tasker and I can't even watch TV whilst reading the chart, let alone have a conversation with someone! This is the pattern I'm currently knitting (but in black):

I hope to have it finished in my lifetime:rotfl:

If anyone wants to look me up on Ravelry I'm there with the same username.

That's a beauitful shawl clockwork. I'm a multitasker too and lately I had trouble just doing basic rib on a pair of socks while doing other things at the same time. So I think I'd have trouble with your pattern - would need at least 2 lifetimes! It'll be worth it when it's finished though.
