Amandada - when I need to do sleeves, I knit them together using separate balls of wool on the same needles. That way they always match because each row is the same, and it always feels quicker than doing them one at a time!

What a brilliant idea!!! Now that you mention it, I think I vaguely remember my mum maybe doing this. I'll definitely give it a go! Thank you!:D

readicut has free p&p this weekend if you spend over £10

there's a few potluck deals, mostly the furry kind of wool.

anyone know where I could get a pattern for a football badge for my DGS beloved Chelsea football club.I only want the badge as I am knitting him a blanket in blue and white squares

I don't have a pattern but this might be some help. You use your picture with this website and it changes it into a chart for you.

There is a free website I use that has a 'chart generator' for knitting, crochet and cross-stitch. If you have the picture you want to use saved on your PC all you do is upload the picture and it will make a chart for you. The chart generator is here:

    http://www.microrevolt.org/knitPro.htm

Edit: I must type really slowly!

  • Hi Everyone,
I am hoping someone here can help me.
My mum is disabled and has started knitting again to pass the time, as she is housebound - this has been brought on by the news of my brother and his wife expecting their 1st baby in May!! :)
She is looking to knit a shawl but is in need of large knitting needles, 50cm in length and 3 1/4 thickness (I think?) Could anyone point me in the direction of a good website where she could get these?
    Thanks in advance

I'm sure the answer would be in here somewhere but I can't read 119 pages - sorry......my grown-up daughters want to learn to knit. (I dislike knitting tho I sew lovely things) Can anyone recommend a website or book which will show tham 'knitting for beginners' but is not aimed at 10 year-olds. I have bought them each some wonderful wool and giant needles and a pattern which will (might) turn this ball of wool into a lovely scarf if only they can master casting on and off and plain and purl - thats all. Sounds so easy but I can't explain it to them down the phone ! (I can knit but just don't) Thank you......

plumduff55 - SNAP twice - I`m going to be a grandma again the beginning of April and my first pregnancy was twins as well !! DD, the youngest one, and I went out today to buy pink and blue wool as I have always knitted a `coming home from hospital set` for each of my grandchildren and she wants one as well. Didn`t think she would as the young mums nowadays just seem to want shop bought stuff. I`m not complaining though.
I`ll be using some of my `old` baby patterns as they seem much prettier than some of the new ones - some of the ones I have are the ones my mum did for me and my brother - definitely vintage !!
moliere - I do that with the sleeves as well, at least they match when I do it that way.

morganlefay - there are lots of useful clips on youtube to get them started.
