I'm not sure if anyone can help, but here goes.
When we were visiting York recently,we visited the Cath Kidston shop. In there they had a crochet cushion, which was just trebles into a square. My daughter thought they were cool, and I immediately said I would make her one. The yarn used was slightly less than a chunky knit, but was made out of nylon(I think),not nylon yarn, but nylon ribbon. The reason why I'm asking here is that my mum used to use this type of yarn to knit peg bags, and shopping bags in the seventies. It's very hardwearing, and from what I can remember was brightly coloured. It was not a soft yarn, like normal knitting wool.
I thought I'd have no problem buying this, but I've been into so many shops and people just look at me as if I'm an idiot.
I probably haven't described it very well, but if anyone has any ideas what it is, I'd be very grateful for any information.

    Update
After sethsgran's post. I convinced myself that Cath Kidston wouldn't use nylon, but the cotton she mentioned didn't look how I remembered it. I phoned up the Cath Kidston shop, to find out what the cushion was made of. The cushion was actually a "vintage " piece, bought by their buyers as a one off original.
I phoned Texere Yarns and they were fantastic. They knew exactly what I was talking about, and it's torn nylon ribbon, which they believe was a by product from some manufacturing process. They also remembered it was used for coathangers, which I'd forgotten. They don't think it's still available.
I'm now mildly depressed that I'm also "Vintage." I just with I'd kept some of the dreadful things I'd made in my youth, as clearly it's coming back into fashion.

Does anyone else hate the new shape of cable needles? I could`nt find my old straight one from years ago so bought a metal funny shaped one.
I hate it, if i`m cabling with 1 stitch i have to balance the damn thing or the stitch drops of because of the weight .
Today i`ve got some plastic ones , different shaped as well, so much better.
    Why change them though?

I gave up using cable needles years ago...I just drop the stitches to either back or front of work as appropriate and pick them up again....sounds a lot more difficult than it is when you get used to it, which takes a little while but I kept losing the **oody cable needles, read about it somewhere and tried it and have never looked back

Hi there Jazzy-B it sounds to me like a cotton yarn you are looking for, http://www.texere.co.uk/shades.php?reference=806

Check out the above. Texere yarns are on the outskirts of Bradford town centre, very much a mill style inside with many yarns on the cone. Extremely friendly staff. They also do mail order. Worth a visit if you enjoy knit and crochet. They also sell Debbie Bliss Noro and Twilleys to name a few. Not an obvious shop frontage and you need to ring to enter but definately open to all. I have bought loads of wool and yarn there and I love the Troon selection for knitting then felting slippers and bags

  • I sent mine back with the courier who delivered it. Readicut are saying they haven't received it, and don't use couriers  . Also waiting for someone to call me back

I wouldn't hold your breath! despite frequent requests for them to ring me, they never did. I finally got an email from them yesterday saying they will refund the postage 'but next time don't send by registered mail'! They really think there will be a next time?

As soon as I get the refund I think I will drop them a well worded letter.

Just wanted to say, I went to Texere Yarns and they couldn't have been nicer. They were so helpful, and they even have a squishy sofa and coffee machine for bored OH's. The yarns are floor to ceiling in huge bins in some rooms and I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. :rotfl: I bought some gorgeous mohair yarn and pattern and some ribbon yarn a lot cheaper than anywhere else. I'll definitely be going back.:T

Shaz, Well worth a visit. There is a small free car park at the rear of the shop and also a pay car park next door, on side of main rd. Remember folks they don't usually open on Saturdays, just the occasional one.
There is also Cold Spring Mills http://www.coldspringmill.co.uk/yarn.htm they don't have the same choice but a nice place to visit with an outdoor clothing/equipment shop above. The setting for this shop is amazing and there is also a little cafe and outside seating area when warm. Parking at the rear of the shop. Like I said not in the same quantity and choice but nice to visit if you fancy a trip out. Also quite near Haworth to finish off your day.
