  • Have you tried ebay? Check your local market and see if there is a wool stall they can be quite reasonable pricewise

    Hi red balloon,
Great pattern, but is it American? If so their needle sizing is different, their 10 is our 6mm or old size 4. So that would be normal chunky yarn. Hope this is helpful.

    Hi All

I'd really like to knit this:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sirdar-Peru-Naturals-knitting-Pattern-jackets-8974_W0QQitemZ190256987700QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Crafts_Knitting_Crochet_EH?hash=item190256987700&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318#ebayphotohosting

but I wondered if there was an alternative wool that I could use that may be cheaper - if I were to knit this in the size I need for my daughter it would cost approx £30?

    Thanks

Sally....provided the wool you choose knits up to the same tension as the Sirdar one you should have no problem...try kemps woolshop on line, they often have offers on and you might be able to get what you want more cheaply

Can't see any reason why they couldn't change the order for you as it was sunday so wouldn't have posted them. I don't think you would manage to get the correct guage on 10mm. Good luck.

    'Morning all,
At 3.30 today, Radio 4 is reading "Knit one, Purl one, a "funny and tender account of a series of summer holidays and the importance of knitting" (taken from Radio Times preview).

    Hurrah! Knitting on the radio!!:j

Finally got around to sewing up my very first cardi attempt! My cousin is due her baby any day now, but I'm going to keep this one for my best bud, we're really close, and I think the imperfections in it will appeal to her!! I still don't have buttons for it yet, but she's not due baby till June so I have time yet! Of course, I'll have to do a second one, just in case she has a boy!!

Anyhow, particularly for charlies_mum, to whom I am indebted for all the encouragement and help she gave, here it is!:
