  • karren i made a shawl for my niece for christmas using the increase one stitch at the beginnig of each row method. i actually knitted it as a square decreasing 1 stitch at the beginning of each row once i was happy with the width then i sewed it together as a triangle and added a knitted lace edging. sorry i cant remember the pattern i used but i know it was a baby blanket with optional lace edging that i got in the 'knit a square' thread last year. My niece was delighted with it - i used a kilt pin to hold the shawl shape and help her keep it on.

I'm busy knitting duckling creme egg covers for an easter fund rasier my local church choir are doing using a pattern kindly posted in here by maytaurus. they are brilliant and really easy to knit - ive done 10 already:T

  • hi all. i have combined five balls of thin mohair(and acryllic) wool together in orange, blue, yellow, pink and blue and its made a pretty rainbow wool ball which i would like to knitt something with. Its really thick and would need 10mm or 12mm needles.

does anyone have any ideas for me?

Interesting info on the arthritis everyone, thanks for sharing - I had arthritis diagnosed in my hands (and other places!) just over a year ago, at the ripe age of 38 and am interested to find that knitting is good therapy, as I had a nagging worry that it actually wouldn't help any. I can't afford to get all new bamboo needles at the mo, so I'll live with my metal ones for the time being.

Bought my bamboo needles on ebay - got a set of 15 pairs for less than a tenner. There is a seller in Hong Kong who always has them on there and they generally sell for around £5 but delivery is about £5 on top of that. I bought a set and then got another set for my Mum. We both absolutely love them but so do my cats and they tend to want to chew.

Thanks for that Catwoman, I'll take a look and see what's on offer - sounds like you got an excellent deal. However, with 2 kitties myself, I wonder if my investment would be wise!!! It's difficult enough trying to knit with tails of yarn being attacked from 2 sides, without having to worry about the needles too!!

Hi everyone, tis me again, haunting the peaceful thread!

I can't seem to get to grips with the Elizabeth Zimmerman way of increasing, just can't figure it out at all! Anyhow, the pattern I'm working on says that if you choose to do your increased by knitting into the front and back of the stitch, that you should leave one less stitch between increases.

If the row I want to work reads M1, K2 (14 times), am I right in thinking that I simply increase my usual way, then K1 ??

M1 means make one which usually means you pick up the wool between the stitches and knit into it to make an extra stitch. I think you would then knit 2 stiches after making this 1 stitch and then repeat another 13 times.

Hope I've explained that ok, I'm sure someone will let me know otherwise.
