also, while I am the only mad woman up at this time .. can I ask if anyone has a pattern for a toy suitable for a new born... not bothered how easy or hard, just something that looks nice and can be loved! did a quick search online but some of them are a bit odd to say the least! I wouldnt want to put them in with any babies of mine and give them nightmares!!

  • what do people suggest as essentials for a budding new knitter? I have just knitted DS a hat and have completly caught the knitting bug (I'm so proud of myself!) so far all I have is a pair of 8 and 9 needles and two balls of double knit wool! Dont want to (plus can't afford) spend loads of equipment all at once so just wondering what people think are most essential and versatile.

quite fancied doing a top next, found a nice (free pattern) but it said it needed really epensive wool and all sorts of round needles. are these worth investing in?

I was surprised how much knitting needles cost when I looked recently.

Have you tried your local charity shop? One near me sells needles for 50p a pair and patterns for 20p

Officially a non-smoker but still rounder than recommended :p
  • Thanks for all the tips! Am off to scour the charity shops in my lunch break! At least it's the right time of year to be picking up a new hobby, my christmas list is growing quite quickly he he:D .

HI Lisalips -I've had a good hunt around and the only dog pattern I have found so far is here http://www.alandart.co.uk/pages/products for a Labrador. I shall carry on looking, though.

  • Hi just wondering if anyone had any views of bamboo versus aluminium knitting needles. Bamboo seem to be a lot cheaper but I have never used any before so wondering if they are okay. thanks x
