Many thanks Penelope & Dee - much appreciated! I can hopefully make some progress now - and at least I have the extra hour if I need to re-start!!:A FLY FIRST, KNIT LATER :A0

Just to say I agree with the explanations already given (sits imagining you knitting away with a puzzled look on your face lol). I am just off to knit too- doing DS a fleecey hoody (did him one with a zip neck a while back from the same pattern but its too small now).
Good luck.

Hello all
Sorry if there are loads of these posts but i had a quick look through and couldn't find anything straight away (it's my daughter's fault, she's getting impatient!).
Anyway, can anyone please recommend a garter stitch pattern in DK for a small teddy bear for said daughter to knit? She's 10 years old and has made 'scarves' and blanket squares and is starting to get quite neat now and, while she's keen, i promised i'd find her a teddy pattern. I thought i'd got one but haven't been able to find it.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Tracey
Here is a link to a really simple teddy in garter stitch. The pattern is for charity really but I'm sure the designer won't mind if it's to help your daughter's knitting skills improve! If she finds it easy, she could also make one for charity, too.

It doesn't really matter what size yarn she uses; I think the ones suggested are American. If I was your daughter I would use DK yarn and size 4mm (old size 8) needles.
Hope this helps.KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

Hi everyone, I'm after a bit of advice from all you experienced knitters.
I want to make a baby blanket for a friend and I'm not sure what sort of wool/yarn to use. I want it to be very nice and snuggly but from a practical point of view it will need to go in the washing machine.
I'll probably be buying it online so I won't be able to feel how soft the wool is so any recommendations will be gratefully received.
Also, should I go for man made or natural fibre?
thank you!weaving through the chaos...0 -
Hi Phizzimum - both man-made and natural yarns are very good these days; natural will be more expensive, though. Many yarn manufacturers make wool specially for babies which will be soft. In my local shop they sell Bonus yarns which includes one for babies. It comes in lovely colours and is really soft. They might be available online if you just google 'Bonus yarn'.KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

Please is there anyone here who can help me with the Alan Dart's Gnome.

I'm stuck in the instructions on how to do his legs and boot.
Pattern says:
Cast on 22 sts
Row1: K1 (Make1) twice, K6, (Make 1) four times, K6, (Make 1) twice, K1. 30sts
My problem is I cant get the row 1 right, I can't "see" the pattern on where to increase one. I always end up with 27 sts insted of 30 sts some how. Can someone please help me by showing/writing down how to do the increases on row 1 so I can easily understand it
K1, M1, K1, M1 K1, K1, K1, K1, K1, K1, (something like this so it adds up to 30sts)
I feel a bit stupid since i managed to do the rest of him:o and only got the leg/boot left to do0 -
It looks like this will be the heel of the boot, so here's what I make of it.....
K1, K1 M1, K1 M1, K1 K1 K1 K1 K1 K1, K1 M1, K1 M1, K1 M1, K1 M1, K1 K1 K1 K1 K1 K1, K1 M1, K1 M1, K1.
I usually make 1 by knitting into the front and back of the same stitch, so you don't get a hole. HTH

Thank you Pol.:T Seeing it now before me it makes so much sense. (I've done a front and back increase as you suggested as well and it looks great)0
