This site is very helpful. I found it really useful when I started knitting again. You can watch video clips of cast on/off methods and lots of different stitch patterns.

I think I would get it if I could watch a video of someone doing the slip knot and casting on,I will worry about casting off later. The actual knitting bit I can manage.Any links to an idiots guide video clip very welcome.:o
My daughter says I must be a genius because only a genius cannot do really easy things:rolleyes:
Why dont you have a look at Youtube for a video showing you how to cast on.
Yesterday i bought some red and black wool and have started my phone sock for my son.
My mum taught me to knit when i was at school and i remember even once knitting a cable jumer, but i have not done it for many years, and it was like getting back onto a bike - it all came back and i was knitting like the clappers last night. It is very addictive, I had forgotten how much, the kids wanted a bath and i kept saying, mummys counting i'll be with you in a minute, when i'v just finished this colour/line - im dreadful! You can stand there and agonize........

How is this for a big pat on the back. I overheard two of my grandaughters talking to thier friend the other day about leg warmers. Their friend informed them that she had the latest High School Musical leg warmers, to which my little angels proudly informed her well that is nothing we have some exclusive designer ones, yes they are the ones that I knitted for them. Ahhhhhhhhhhh bless I felt 10 foot tall0

Hi all
I have a huge bag of mohair in various colours (orange, ! blue, red, pink etc) that i want to knit with. Has any one got any links to some free patterns? What sort of items could i use it for?
I also have some "fur" wool just one ball and some wool on a cone which i think would be for a knitting machine. what can i use this for?
oh and the simpler the pattern the better! I am not a very patient knitter!

You could knit a keyhole scarf in stripes of colour ---use big needles like 9 or 10mm, and around 16-20 sts is enough.0
-
You could use the knitting machine wool double or even 3 strands together.0

One word: Ravelry.
Okay, I'll give you the link, too: http://www.ravelry.com
It's an awesome resource for knitting and crochet patterns and you can see who's used which yarn on each pattern so you get an idea of whether yours will work with it or not. Once you sign up it takes a few days to get an invitation to join, but it is absolutely worth the wait.
Another great one is http://www.knitty.com, which never fails to inspire me.0 -
I'd use a massive crocet hook (10mm) and make cobwebby scarves, just go up and down or round and round using what ever stitches you can think of, they'll look fab.0

Hi all. I have just started the back to a baby cardigan and the reading is as follows:
BACKWith smaller needles, cast on 50(54-58) sts. Work even in 2/2 Ribbing for 2”, end on
RS. Change to larger needles and p the next row, dec 7(6-6) sts across – 43(48-52)
sts. Work even in St st until piece measures 4 1/2(5-5 1/2)” from beg, end on WS.
I have just done the ribbing and now about to change to the larger set of needles to purl the next row but it says to decrease 7 stitches. where do i decrease from?
