So it could be in a complete different corner if i select the overall area corner of the house instead of an individual room?

My mum has a money plant; do I literally just need to break off a leaf and stick it in some soil to make one of my own??

Yes or find one that has fallen off.

I looked at mine last night and found two new ones with lots of roots. It was a little bit more than a leaf but they had fallen off on to the soil and was rooting themselves with no help from me.

Am I allowed to send live plants through the normal royal mail. If anyone wants one of the two new ones I have pm me.

I am happy to post them out as other wise I just have to plant them up and find new homes for them. Ummm wonder if I have any boxes to put them.

    Yours

It may seem like harmless fun to rely on superstitious beliefs, but is it really wise when considering one's finances?

As long as things are going reasonably well, it is easy to attribute every bit of good fortune to the plant (or whatever) in the south west corner (or wherever), and forget about the plant when good fortune deserts us.

Looking to confirm what you want to believe is known as "confirmation bias".

What if things get really bad? Having "confirmed" (to ourselves) that Feng Shui works, should we then spend the last bit of money we have on a Feng Shui "expert" to provide us with the expertise that we lack to put things right?

I just worry that a reliance on superstition can lead us into some very poor decision making that ultimately costs us dearly.
  • Please don't worry John - and welcome to Old Style by the way - I doubt if anyone of us girlies (it seems to have been JUST female posters that are interested in this) is going to spend more than a fiver on the whole project and if it all comes to nought then we will mourn our fivers and go back to following horoscopes instead

edit - I've just thought, if we spend £3.00 on a plant that's OK, everyone likes a nice looking plant, if we spend £3.00 on a book from Amazon, that's OK also because we can sell it back on Amazon when it's been read and possibly make a small profit and lastly if anyone spends £2 or £3 on a few Chinese coins, then they can be recycled as a small gift for a friend.....I don't think that we are going to come out of this in penuary ;)

I think most of us treat this as a 'don't know if I believe in it but will do no harm anyway' type of thing.

I have a fairly open mind and I'm willing to give things like this a go (to the extent of spending £2.99 on a money plant in Homebase today and £6 on a book from Borders), but that's about it. I will consider changing things in my home if it's not too difficult and doesn't cost anything, but I wouldn't consider going down the spending money on an expert route that you mentioned. I would imagine most people would feel the same.

I agree, most of the stuff that people here are talking about doing is cheap and easy - it's not going to cost me anything to get a leaf off my mum's money plant, and the decluttering I am going to do with my book is a good thing whether you believe in feng shui or not when you consider I live in a studio flat that needs it. The original post even said that she didn't follow feng shui to the letter - just did a few simple things like the plant etc.
