Who knows? many people state that BOGOFs etc are actually funded by the mfrs. In this particular case I wouldn't expect the captain to be paying out any more than £1.50 per 3 items. Obviously the points can become worth up to £6. I'd expect Mr. Tesco to be paying that as a bit of an oversight.

I've worked on a few IT systems for manufacturers and retailers and can confirm that the mfrs typlically bear at least 70% of the cost of the BOGOF. When tied up with prominent positioning, promotional materials etc. the manufacturer can get stung for more than 100% of the "One Free" cost.

For example one MSE favourite retailer (not Tesco) sets charges (or wholesale discounts) based on where on the shelf a product is displayed. If you don't offer the discount your product will end up unloved on a bottom shelf, or if you want a lovely end of gondoller position you need to pay for it.

Also I strongly suspect that the £6 discount is almost entirely funded by the company that it's being redeemed again i.e. Tesco might offer the company a small reimbursement in return for giving its customers a £6 discount but I doubt it. For theme parks etc. it doesn't actually cost them anything in real terms to let additional people through the gate but they'll gain sales through their retail / food outlets where profits are high. So in effect accepting Tesco vouchers increases their profits and gives them free advertising through Tesco for no real cost. Taussauds probably stopped the Annual Pass because people who held one weren't spending in the retail outlets / food outlets and therefore it was starting to hurt their balance sheet.

For travel companies etc. I am sure they are hoping most people will only have a max of £100 discount from Holidays (based on average spends) so it's probably cheaper for them to accept Tesco vouchers and sell holidays direct than pay travel agent comission. It all goes pear shaped for them when someone pays for the full holiday in just vouchers.

I suspect long term if too many people paid for their holidays or MFi furniture with just vouchers the retailers would pull out of the clubcard scheme. MFIs change in T&Cs (£250 min spend) is probably to ensure that on average only 50% of the price of the goods or less is made up of vouchers.

So the bottom line is the mfrs and voucher redeemers loose out and Tesco win yet again.

    YMMV - Rufus.

    This is not true.

I've spoken to an outlet who accepts Clubcard deals vouchers, and they have to invoice Tesco Freetime Ltd for the value of all the clubcard deals vouchers that are used in their store, and they then get the money back from Tescos.

So the only cost to the store is the admin side of invoicing Tescos, but Im sure this is far outweighed by the fact that being members of the clubcard scheme brings in extra custom.

    Cheers,

You used to be able to use Deals vouchers to buy a 1 year pass to Alton Towers (and any other Tussauds attraction). However, you can't anymore because according to Tesco, Tussauds stopped the offer because it was costing them too much money.

Tesco said they would love to offer the deal again, because it was one of the most popular, but they cannot with permission from Tussauds. This suggests that Tussauds was funding the difference.

I'm very gutted about the Tausauds pass as we live about 5 mins away from Thorpe Park.I have noticed in the new brochure they are doing 5 visits for £17.50 of vouchers.
Disapointing compared with the annual pass for £20.
At the end of the day without the pass we won't go like many others and they will lose money as we won't be there to buy there inflated priced ice creams and drinks.

I can't think of a way you can guarantee they'd have any in stock, let alone enough to make it worth your while.

I would phone them first and ask them to check their stock & put some aside for you - they don't normally, but if you're travelling that far they may make an exception.

Phone them about a week in advance and ask to place a special order. If they let you do this it'd probably help to buy in multiples of 12 (since that's how they are packaged). You will need to give them the barcode number, which is 8 722700 019305. (Bird's Eye Roast Beef in Gravy - 114g).

Phone them on the day they get the delivery, or say it should be ready to ensure they have it, and that you won't have a wasted trip.

surely you would all being doing the cows (not to mention the trees) and tesco a favour if you just buy a carrier full and keep paying for it over and over again....it would be crazy if tesco had a problem with you doing it as it would be money to help pay for the club card deals!! Some may argue its fraud but is it? so for all those who got a load and dont want it...why dont you just put it back in the freezer so another can pay for them...least they would never be out of stock!! just food for thought i guess (no pun intended)!
