I would seriously suggest that the OP does not give auction details on here, firstly it identifies their own id and secondly there is no need.

Point taken but not the first time i've seen it done on here...

Trying to establish was it one of the auctions whereby the starting price + postage were basically the minimum price the seller would accept.

So the penny hasnt dropped yet that is about the 'total' cost?
Fair point, but it's still fee avoidance.

Under the new rules of course the buyer could happily neg the selelr for excessive postage and know they couldn't get one back in return.

Maybe these new rules , whilst I still dislike them, will be what some sellers need to tighten up their ways.

It will be interesting to see how that works when postage & packing includes the jiffybag / box to put it in, maybe tape, label, printing too.

If i charge £1.49 for P&P on an item that cost 50p to post, someone could deem that excessive, yet add in the cost of a jiffybag, perhaps 99p if you're only selling the odd item and you buy one lose in the post office, and all of a sudden you could get negged by some narrow minded ebayer, of which, it would appear there are plenty about....

    And would that bother you?

Whens the last time ebay did you any favours? Have you seen their profits?

If the seller even passes on a penny of that fee avoidance to me via cheaper prices then great. Plus i'd rather see the seller get it than those highwaymen in ebay.

    Amen to that.

Its been said many times already but ill say it again.

Nobody is forcing you to bid and the price of the postage is there in black and white before you do.

So if your not happy with it then don't bid on it.

If the items arrives quick and its well packaged then I think the seller has done nothing wrong cause ebay are just far to greedy these days.

I hope google start up there own auction site so we don't have to keep being ripped of for selling stuff should we choose to do so.

As I buyer I couldn't care how much the p&p is, so long as the overall price is decent and the item arrives safely within a resonable time.

The beauty of ebay is all the prices (should) be displayed up front, unlike a lot of online shops where you have to enter all your details just to find out what p&p is

Been awhile since this old chestnut cropped up.

I sell mainly on Amazon and lose money on P+P onevry item I sell but that's life.

But the best part is I have a RM account and stick my own postage labels on so noone knows how much it costs to send.

All in cost is the importaqnt thing but if they are charging a premium it better get to my door double quick time!! Otherwise they will cop it my feedback and ratings.

I normally go with the 'i/you know what the postage is before you bid etc', however, last week, I won an item at short notice (ie not enough time to mail seller first), p&p was £1.75, minute later, won another from same person, same p&p. I requested total from seller and it came back £3.50 p&p, I asked if there was a postage discount (it was only 2 childs tops) he said no. Ok, fair enough, I paid. However, they both arrived a couple of days later in the same bag with p&p 40p!! I contacted them to say thanks for item etc but I was disappointed to see the difference in the post, even taking into account petrol/bus fares etc. I felt it was high and would he consider a partial refund. The reply was 'think about it, I think you have been charged a completely fair amount, I have to buy the bag (this was a normal mail bag btw) and then it has to be weighed so no, I will not refund anything.I wouldn't have been so miffed if he had sent seperatly but to send them together and charge the same amount, I do think he was wrong, I didn't know about reporting them on the listing, so I'm going to go and find it and see if theres anything I can do, I left pos. feedback as was impressed with the delivery speed and the item but I did state about the postage.

As long as the actual postage is within £1 of what I've paid I don't quibble BUT I don't buy the 'queing, petrol, inconvenience...' angle much quoted by sellers. P&P isn't compensation, it's surely to reimburse outlay? To me this arguement is as logical as turning up to do a car boot and saying to prospective customers "well, I had to get up at 4.30 to come here, it's cold and I've not had my breakfast so that'll be an extra 50p"

yes but if theres a sign at the entrance to say "there will be a 50p charge to cover my breakfast" then whats the problem?

if you dont like the sign then go home, surely?
