Never be sorry to ask questions. As your question may help someone decide not to buy something from ebay with a high p&P

This is the only trouble with these boards, the trollers who like to give useless and dangerous advice. But on a brighter note, they never last long.

As an occasional ebay seller myself, I can understand why postage charges are sometimes higher than it really costs.

It's a shame so many buyers think that Postage and packaging charge should only be the price of a stamp - no consideration for the cost of jiffy bags, bubble wrap, tape, labels, transport to the post office etc. Granted, i agree that £10 is over the top for a camera case in this instance and I too would be dropping the star rating (if I could be bothered to leave any in the first place!!), but nonetheless, it is a postage AND PACKAGING charge...

What also annoys me about the P&P thing is that even when a seller offers Free Postage and Packaging, they still do not receive 5 star rating. What do buyers really expect? Hand delivered by a naked nymphette within minutes of payment?

    Gawd i'm sorry i asked now ;)
Wouldnt dream of spamming someone --at the end of the day i knew what the postage was but would have thought at least half of that money would have been on postage costs.
As i said before its been a lesson learnt and one i wont do again

As mentioned before, ignore the muppets, a lot of them only say things like that on here because they wouldn't dare in RL and think that they can get away with it here!
:D**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

i'd say you weren't ripped off at all, as long as you got the postal service that was specified - ie 1st or special. Loads of places just charge a standard postage cost - ie on amazon for electronics its £5 but for a memory card actual postage would be peanuts.

I just stick a general £3 on most small things i post.

if you neg them for this, you deserve a neg back - you have no cause for complaint here - you paid for the item to be posted and it was. end of story.

Under the new rules of course the buyer could happily neg the selelr for excessive postage and know they couldn't get one back in return.

Maybe these new rules , whilst I still dislike them, will be what some sellers need to tighten up their ways.

if you can do that for me, Steve, I'm a buyer for life ;)
It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.

I've never charged postage on anything I've ever sold on eBay - it's a false economy.

The items have always sold for more than they would have done had I charged postage (and the difference more than makes up for both postage and higher eBay fees). The auctions get bid up higher than those for sinmilar items with postage charges and the buy-it-now items I can just gaurantee that they get sold.

As a seller I've always wondered why other sellers use P&P as a money-making tool...

If I were charged £10 p&p and the actual cost was say £3-4 tops, and to be told "TOUGH", I would'nt be giving them any more than 1* on their p&p feedback!

So the penny hasnt dropped yet that is about the 'total' cost?
