  • Well it is that time of year again. I have just done the annual dance with the three operator in the call centre abroad.

They currently have a deal on the web for new customers: a sony ericssson w595, unlimited texts, 300 anytime mins, etc for £13.50/month (reduced from £18). They told me that this was just for new customers and I told them it didn't seem fair that existing customers got worse deals and asked for my PAC.

I got the code so let the wait begin!

My 3 contract runs out in December, and for the past couple of days I've been trying to upgrade to a better phone (specifically Samsung i8510) but on my existing tariff (300 Mix & Match, £15 per month).

A work mate has this phone and I really like it. To the point where no other phone wil do ;)
Now, 3 offer this phone on 300 Mix & Match but at £25 per month. Will they let me, an existing customer, have it for £15 per month. My backside they will! I even offered to extend the contract to two years, but they were having none of it. Kept saying that it was a high-end handset, and they couldn't do it (even though the phone is now being discontinued by Samsung, so they are just getting rid of old stock).
The best they came up with was to let me have it for £15 per month, but with an up front charge of £180 for the phone! When I told the operator that this was no different from the £25 per month offer, he couldn't come up with a response. Strange that, eh?

Got to the point today where I gave my 30 days notice and requested my PAC code. The code was texted to me shortly after the phone call. We'll see if they get in contact to offer me what I want, but I won't be holding my breath.

It's clear that 3 don't care about keeping their customers.
  • So my 18month contract just ended with three. Phoned them up to see what they could do and they are giving me the Sony Ericsson W595 for £13.50 inc 500mix and match and the usual 300 3to3 minuets (18 month).

I told them the next day i wasn't happy and wanted a better deal because they offer the very same deal on there website. Three phone calls to three later they still wont budge. Wont give me any extra minuets, nothing.

I thought asking for the return envelope would make them change there mind, it didn't.

So there retention deals ain't to good

'3' won't offer any kind of deal until within the 30 day notice period, but how have you managed to give your notice now when your contract expires in December?
  • It may be because there was some confusion as to the length of my original contract. I assumed that I was on an 18 month contract, but 3 seem to think that I was on a 12 month contract that was then extended by six months. So I dunno, really
3 said that I was eligible for an upgrade according to my 3 internet account so I just gave it a go.

I will have to pay a disconnection fee, plus the line rental for the 30 day period, but this works out less than what I would pay if I just hung on until december when my contract ends.
  • My contact ends in October, I spoke to retentions several times and the best they could offer me was around 50p discount on what was online.

I got my PAC code a week ago but am not expecting anything to come of it, this thread has been very short of success stories recently.

Ill let you know if anything changes.
  • Three have been calling me relentlessly for the last few days to offer me an upgrade.

Currently on Talk and Text 600 so 500 min and 100 textx for £10 a month. Apparently this should be £30 a month but as a valued loyal customer I get a £20 discount and new customers have to pay £30.

They don't offer that deal anymore, and a Mix and Match 1100 is only £27 so obviously they do not value me that much.. I asked if I could have more texts in my current deal but changing my tarif means I lose any loyalty discount. Funny that given I'm coming to the end of my fourth 12 month contract with them but the new contract can only be 18 months. My tarif length can change as they please but I'm not a loyal three customer if I want to pay MORE each month! They offered me 200 texts for £10 - standard add on.

I like how they offered me a Sony Ericsson C903 as it is "the best phone you could ever want"... IMO its not even the best C-series Sony Ericcsson!

I'm only 10 months in but going to call them and pay my way out the contract if I have to. Get my PAC and head over to T Mobile for 800 minutes and unlimited texts for £25 and a free Nokia 5800

    1. You got a free 'thanks' because I cant click properly :P

    2. I suspect he is in a similar position to me. I was pretty much 9 months into a £10 a month 12 month contract and they now want to tie me in to an 18 month contract. Offer an upgrade and a new handset early to tie people in for longer.
