Is it possible to phone up other networks and get a better deal by informing them I am with one of their competitors, my contract is coming to an end and I could be swayed by a good deal?

lol...read my post...its right above yours! What I got must be the best deal going (w/o cashbacks and hassle etc). And i did exactly what you just asked!
  • I didn't notice this thread, beach, I posted a new thread and it got merged here so I just got to see your post now.

What experiences have others had with the "poachers" line? If I phoned them up and, say, gave them a fake package that 3 had "offered" me, would they be willing to play and match it?

Did you get your PAC code from 3? When requested you will get a text message with the PAC code and it should tell you when it expires, so if you are on your 17th month, call their cancellations Dep and ask for a PAC.

Hmm, my contract ends on the 18th of October so I'll ring them up on that date in Sept to take the PAC and confirm the notice. But the guy I had a chat with yesterday said something along the lines of "if you don't use your PAC within your notice period we will charge you for another month".

So my question is, 1/ is he telling the truth and 2/ if I request my PAC am I under obligation to use it, or could I just let it sit in the end if I don't want to transfer the number?
I would suggest getting your new contract with your chosen network about 15 days later to give you enough time to use up your 18 month's allowance and giving the new network enough time to switch your number, normally this is done within 7 working days, but better be safe than sorry.
Apart from Voda, are any other companies willing to play ball?

Thanks for all this advice, kikouno.
I was with 3 for 5 years and when canceling my contract the operator tried every trick in the book, I was actually trying to convince him I had enough of 3 and I wanted out for the best part of 40 minutes. No matter how many times you tell them you want to cancel they keep interrupting and offering something new.

First they offered 15 p/m for 1000 cross network minutes unlimited text, unlimited skype.
When I refused for the 5th or 6th time and 30 minutes of trying to convince him to give me my PAC and dictating him my cancellation notice rights, *at this point I started interrupting him like he was doing for the past 30 min he came up with the following: I was trying to be calm and clear throughout the conversation but when I heard this I got quite mad  and said "Why should I let you finish? You are not letting me finish the contract so why should I let you finish?" At this point he lowered his voice and offered me 2000 cross network minutes unlimited text, internet usage and skype for 15 p/m
For 0.01 seconds I stopped but then I came to my senses and said NO! then he said he would send my PAC code and hanged up. How rude, not even goodbye:p

That was the last time I will EVER deal with 3
Lol I know exactly what you mean, yesterday I spent 35 minutes trying to get my 30 days notice through, before that 30 minutes twice trying to get information on the end of my contract and the PAC, which he couldn't explain at all. Actually I was saying to the guy yesterday "you can't offer me the deal I want, I've already had this conversation twice before, just put my notice through", to which he replied "sir, if you don't tell me what you want how can I give it".

    lol
  • The only phone i wanted was the blackberry bold so im having to pay £40 a month for that.

Basically I got 50% line rental for 15 months. Not sure if they would do this for every tarrif tho or just the more expensive ones.

The PAC code does expire after 30 days and if you dont use it then you havent transfered your service and hence still using 3 so you will enter a rolling contract. If you plan on doing this you need to let 3 know.

I don't think you need to let them know - they'll hardly question your decision not to use a PAC...

Incorrect. When 3 send you your pack they also send you a message with some T&C's, including:

"Like to stay? We'd love to welcome you back. So if you have changed your mind and decide to stay with 3, just don't use the PAC and carry on as usual."

If you arent 100% sure please don't question others who are, you could have cost this person a lot of money!

  • relentless phone calls now offered the N97 for £26.79 pm which is far cheaper than anyone else is offering it for so i'm quite happy with that.

I had to contact 3 yesterday to find out when my wife and I's contracts ceased. I was told Jan 7th 2010. If I wanted to terminate I had to do it on Dec 7th 2009. If I wanted to renew ring on 27th Sept to find out what "super" deals are available. Do they speak with forked tongue?
