well if they are working to get rid of the small home junk seller, then i think they will regret it.

powerseller status means nothing to me when buying they can still have rubbish feedback etc... they just sell more of the rubbish thats all powerseller means to me.

If they did get rid of all the small/home junk seller then a lot of people will stop buying in my opinion i would for one!!!

i hate the new fee structure and feedback etc... but until a visable ebay alternative comes up then what are people to do.

I know i have moved back more to free ads to sell stuff than i have done in recent years!! No fees and cash on collection :j

Sorry I posted a huge response to this but I can barely use MSE some days and it has all been lost. I can't retype it all so will have to leave it for now.

However I will say that I believe that getting rid of smaller sellers is a deliberate business policy, several of their announcements appear to suggest that. The new benefits and enhanced paypal protection will not be expanded to include us smaller sellers.

  • Signed it, hope it'll do some good if they get to see the depth of feelings amongst their CUSTOMERS, that's us by the way.

There were several hundred posts on the ebay forum last night in a matter of hours, yet the pinks were still insisting that the vast majorty of users will welcome the changes. One pink even suggested that the only sellers who would leave ebay in protests would be the scamming ones..and several people took great exception to that!

On days like that I copy my message to clipboard before posting... at least if it gets nuked you can just paste it and try again - not quite so head-banging-the-keyboard maddening!

I figure it's their way of dealing with all the complaints/possible legal ramifications of bad sellers and people trading whilst not paying tax.

By virtually forcing people to either become Power Sellers or leave due to lack of protection/pricing/lack of visibility in listings, etc., and making all those Power Sellers/Almost Power Sellers sign up as businesses, eBay can wash their hands of any responsibility regarding the transactions. If a buyer has any problem then they can just say that they are covered by the DSR and should take it up with the appropriate trading/legal authorities. They can't be accused of giving a venue to traders who are avoiding tax, because people's contact details will now have to be on show, so will be easily obtainable without any privacy questions arising from eBay allowing the tax man accesibility to customer's contact details, etc.

eBay will become a venue for small to large buisinesses/traders rather than a venue for the everyday person to sell their belongings. :(
  • The next move will be all Ebay sellers activity will be given to the Tax Office each finanial year just to check that all sellers are being fair to the Government

I thought Paypal already did that?

A while back they told me as I was about to pass £4350 (the tax threshold) they would be passing the details onto the inland revenue for the purposes of tax. I never heard anything back though.

Whilst most buyers are generally reasonable and easy to deal with the few idiot buyers you get already make Ebay selling almost more hassle than its worth. The added frustration of now not being able to respond with a Negative to idiot buyer feedback will certainly make me think of voting with my feet.
