Hi Seaxwyn - sympathies over the lost expenses! What is it with us????!!!! Narnia was very enjoyable - we have read all the books several times, and I really like the way they have done the films.

Thanks for your support re Halifax - I have three numbers screened on my mobile now - and I have taken unplugging my landline too - they are mean to keep phoning. Today I even had an invitation to take out a new loan "as an existing Personal Loan customer you can enjoy....etc....etc....." I think that is probably against the code of practice too. The right hand really doesn't know what the left is doing, does it? It's not fair - if you treated your customers like that; you'd have no business, would you?! I am going to take a copy of it, and send it back to them with a covering letter saying how ridiculous it is that they are inviting me to take on more loans when I have written to them telling them I cannot afford my repayments = encouraging more debt - I think it might come under something like "irresponsible lending"? what do you think?

Apart from that, I waved my son off at 5am on Sunday morning and have developed a really sore throat (?unshed tears maybe? or just a knock to my immune system as I have been around a lot of people with sore throats recently at work).

I have just done three really long days -12 hrs, 11 hrs, 10.5 hrs - too much. On Saturday I accompanied a service user on a trip to see Mary Poppins in Plymouth - that was quite nice as well as tiring. Tomorrow is supposed to be a day off, but I have a half-day training course in the morning. My friend is coming over in the afternoon to take me out and it will be great to spend some time with her.

Tuesday: bus fare (£1); lunch with friend (£11.35 - I had a lovely lunch and then a banana split for pud!); food shopping (£4.21).

Son has arrived safely in Dallas - and judging by the photo on facebook of him and his friends - is deleriously happy - what more can a mother ask for!:D
My friend and I spent a wet afternoon looking round the museum, which was really relaxing, fun and interesting (and free)

On a more serious note - the Halifax have not let up their relentless telephoning - I had several calls to my mobile which the screening blocked out for me (thanks) and when I did 1471 on my landline, the last call was them again. Thinking I was safe for the evening I left the phone on - and at 19.50 I had another call on the landline - the person asked me name, I confirmed I was that person, then they said "I am sorry, I've just seen you've already been contacted today, apologies, I'm really sorry..." I said "OK - bye". Hmmmmm

    Wednesday was a NSD :D.
Thursday I had to do a load of laundry (£6.35); bought a local paper (50p with discount voucher); and some decent food (£18.28) and two energy-saving lighbulbs (£5.48). I stocked up on museli; because there was 70p off on it I bought two boxes. I did the same with oatcakes. I indulged (:o) in some Food Doctor Omega Seed Butter which was £3+ and some Rock Lemon Cordial - because I want to treat myself as well as I can, and I really did not enjoy drinking the Co-op's own lime cordial last month (with sweeteners and sugars etc). I am aware that I could probably live on much less if I bought the cheap stuff - but I just can't quite get myself down into that gear. Am I causing myself problems by pretending to be affluent around food? I just fear the long-term damage poor-quality food might do to me....... ditto cleaning products and the environment. I have tried using Soda - but I don't find it as good as it's cracked up to be.

PS I am away from Friday morning to Sunday evening - so will update on Sunday eve probably - or Monday morning if I am really tired.

On a more serious note: the Post Office, re credit card, have refused my offer of reduced payments after my second pleading letter and served me with a default notice. It is a bit scary because it says that can take necessary legal action without any further notice to me. I have written back using guidelines from National Debtline asking them to reconsider etc etc. It is not going quite as easily as I had hoped....

One good thing was getting a BT on-line bill which showed I was in credit - that was a very nice feeling.;)

    I have a stinking cold.

Poor you with a cold, how miserable and how annoying at this time of year.

I'm with you on the paying more for good quality food and cleaning products. And electricity too: no matter what the inducements, I won't switch from ecotricity. There's a price to all this cheapness.

Sorry to hear about the post office. I wish you courage and patience dealing with all that.

Do you have any idea when you might get any money from your father's estate? It seems so pointless to be going through all this stuff when you know you will eventually have enough to pay it all off.

Thanks - my brother and sister have been great at keeping my Dad's bungalow looking good and they have had a few interested people - one couple have actually been to look twice ........ I guess it could happen at any time, but then it might not happen, and I am not depending on it. Now you've reminded me of it .... oh, it would be a dream come true, wouldn't it? I had a missed call from my brother today, and it did cross my mind, fleetingly, that it might be about the house - my heart quickened for a moment.
