    I am debt-free.

There you are - I said it?! Can I still post on this board?
Maybe I should ask to close the thread - how do I do that?
Well done! It's just a shame that it had to come through an inheritance, lottery win would have been nicer!

You should post on the 'honour roll' or what ever you call it...

I would also start a new 'staying debt free for 1200 months!!' thread.

    Good luck for the future!

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

I agree fully, people in debt are highly amusing as they are all fat and stupid.

Most people in debt are under weight fact:D
some even have letters and things before or after their name:eek:

The CAP system sounds sensible. As I read your description I thought 'I could never do that, as I have such irregular and unpredictable income' - then realised for the umpteenth time what a stupid situation I'm in. Not being able to guarantee you'll have enough income to cover all the basic outgoings is plain stupid!

Is the system working for you, bountiful? And are you still thinking about changing your job?

  • Hi Seaxwyn - they have a solution for people with variable amounts coming in - like yourself. You create a 'holding account' - so all the money coming in goes into the holding account (a current account), then you work out the average monthly income and budget according to that amount - then transfer the money you need for regular payments to the regular payments account, the cash needed to the cash account, and savings budgeted for to the savings account.
I am only on week two of actually living on the agreed amount of cash - so probably too early to really judge - but I do feel more in control and am making different sorts of choices about what I spend my money on. For example, I have been lusting after a pot of cream from Lush which is £24.99 - so instead of (a) just getting it and damn the consequences or (b) buying something cheap instead - which I don't really want - I am (c) going to SAVE for it - so at the end of next week, or the week after, I will have the cash to go and buy it, knowing that I have not taken the money from any other essential outgoings. I also wanted to buy a book on-line - and I stopped myself and thought "no, I can't afford to spend money on a book" I will wait and get it from the library.
re: job - I am going to get past the house move first - then start looking for something in the local area. I am moving in a couple of weeks, and will then have a 25 mile journey each way to work (which, by public transport down here can take up to 2 hours each way) - so I want to change that before too long.
