On a more serious note: I've had a letter from the Halifax (loan) acknowledging my letter to them in which I pointed out their lack of professionalism in various matters - they have aplogised and told me that one of their Customer Care Managers will be replying to me shortly - no later than 4 weeks. They sent me a complaints leaflet.

I had written to them about Wasting Time and Money - in sending me two identical letters on the same day in separate envelopes asking me to phone the helpline - when i phoned the helpline I was told it was a mistake and I should ignore the letters. I also mentioned that I considered the frequent repetative phonecalls to be Harrasment. And I sent them a copy of the loan invitation they had sent me - saying I thought it was an example of an Irresonsible Lending Invitation.

Friday - was a load of really miscellaneous spending: work birthday collection 60p; pasty for lunch £2.05; train fare £3.30; sweets 99p; a velvel hoodie from the charity shop £3.75 (really nice deep turquoise - looks unworn);chips for tea £1.35.
Today - a load of laundry £7 (more expensive because it was towels and they need more dryer time)

On a more serious note: I spent all of yesterday evening on Skype with my son in USA - doing some financial first aid. He got paid less than he expected......I told him overtime usually gets paid the month after you do it - but he wouldn't listen! He's also spent ALL the dollars he took with him $550 to last 5 weeks - he has spent all but $10 in the two weeks. I said "how are you going to live on $10 for three weeks?" and suggested he get the next flight home. You can imagine the rest...... I talked him through each of his debts and what action to take. He transferred enough money over to the account I have a card for (his card) and so I paid, by phone, his main creditor - Barclays (credit agreement); then got all the information from him and got him to transfer enough so that his account would not dip below the authorised overdraft limit. Got him to cancel the direct debits for HFC and Tiscali - paid HFC by phone with my own card, then withdrew money from his account to pay myself back. Told him I would pay Tiscali because I don't want to be cut off. Then advised him to talk to his friend and his friends mum - to see if they could come up with a solution. He messaged me back and said they were talking - he had paid Capital One the minimum payment - and was looking at cancelling his hotel room and sharing with someone, so that he should be able to pay Orange too. Once Orane is paid, all the creditors should back off until the next time payment is due. I am now beginning the task of getting his paperwork in order - student loan, student overdraft, current account, credit card, two credit agreements, tiscali and orange - and when he comes back, we are going to sit down and have a long, hard look at it all.
He hasn't paid me any rent - which means that I am going to be in a difficult situation this month - once the rent is paid, and council tax - there will be about £90 left for the month. He gets home on 12th August and gets paid again on the 15th - and hopefully the overtime he was expecting will be in that pay packet and he can pay me back all the rent he owes me.
Phew! Thank goodness I am now MSE savvy and know what action to take in what order! Thank you Martin:money:

Supermum to the rescue! That must have felt good being able to help him. I hope he can still enjoy his holiday - and get back on track with his August pay.

Sunday - train ticket to visit friend and spend a sunny, relaxed afternoon by the sea £3.30; sandwich and drink at the station (went straight from work to the station) £4.28.
No news from my son today.
This week's spends: £48.62 - that's more like it - might be because I'm only feeding myself at the moment - and using less of everything. I could have spent even less if I'd been more disciplined about taking packed lunches and not buying pasties and sandwiches, sweets, chips, clothes. Still - I'm pleased with the total for the week.:D

    Sun 27th.............£1.95:o

total for the week = £110.63:o

£38.95 was spent on train and bus fares - I visited three friends and travelled up to Devon for the weekend with another friend - so four friends @ £10 a trip when averaged out.
Unnecessary spends were £14 on books, £1.95 on ice cream - the rest was food and a £3.99 gift.

I really missed the week being away and at work etc - so - that was that one - now to start the next! Doing this has really helped focus my attention on the daily spending - better than just keeping it to myself (I keep a notebook in my bag and a spreadsheet on the computer as well.)

On a more serious note - the Post Office (credit card) have issued me with a Default Notice - the amount I need to clear it is £55.36 - and it seems daft not to just pay it and relieve the tension - but because I am dealing with more than one creditor, I cannot favour one just because they pressure me harder than another. So - deep breath and stay calm. I have run out of printer ink, so will have to wait until I get paid before I can send them back a letter (not that they want one - it's probably a waste of time and money writing - I just think it might look good to have evidence of my willingness to keep them in the picture). I will phone National Debtline again on Thursday when I have a day off and can have my brain back to myself for a few hours!

I am putting on weight and my feet feel so sore after work - I need to STOP and take care of myself - and I need to think carefully how I can achieve that amidst my busy life
