Moving to your dads bungalow sounds good to me.

Moving to your dad's bungalow is quite a big decision. Would you plan to go back to the same place once it sold? Would your employer keep your job for you? etc etc - I'm sure you are thinking about all those things.
It must be hard to see your son making all those wrong-headed assumptions but you can't tell people that age anything. I remember how exasperated my parents were with me as I drifted along for several years. At least he will know where to come for advice and support when he realises he needs it.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Well - thanks Beanie and Seaxwyn - I'm not moving into Dad's bungalow - my sister said 'no'. So - I am preparing for winter here. I've been getting overtime pay and pushing my income just over the £1000 a month - but I'm still in pretty deep !!!! debt-wise. I have sent off another round of letters to my creditors asking for their compassionate attention to my situation - like why are they charging me interest when they said they wouldn't - and how am I to clear a debt it I am paying £6 a month and being charged £41 interest. Halifax have started another round of repeated phone calls and text messages to me asking me to call them - I have just blocked the number so it doesn't bother me. There is no light at the end of the tunnel at the moment.
Son has managed to sell some stuff - a first edition, signed copy of Deathly Hallows for £200 on e-bay, and his phone for £190, and his exercise machine in local paper went for £75 - he gave me £20 towards the rent! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry! I've put it aside for the water bill. I am now having to live in my £400 overdraft from my 'safe' account - sigh.
I am thinking I will have to go out and spend money on a couple of convector heaters and resign myself to putting £20 a week into the meter during the winter - otherwise we are going to freeze and be so damp and miserable (perhaps I could just move in at work!!!!).
I spent a tenner on the train up to Devon to visit my friend yesterday - that was well worth it. I just finished reading 'Happiness' by Richard Layard which concludes that friendship is just about the most essential aspect of human existence for establishing and maintaining happiness.
The Russell Grant daily horoscope keeps telling me that a new life is about to start - Sagittarius in case anyone wonders.
Sorry I am not making it here daily at the moment - the debt seems to have settled into a bit of a rut and there isn't much new news to report.
I appreciate your friendship on here. Lots of love xxxDebt free by 22 January 2009 - thanks to an unexpected inheritance - take heart - it DOES HAPPEN!0 -
Today the Halifax tried to call me twice - thanks to wonderful technology even my very basic mobile was able to block the call and leave me in peace!
I was reflecting today on the fact that this debt free wanabee stuff is kind of a life-long thing - you know, I am managing my debt situation, but I'm not actually making any headway into paying them off.
I went over to Money Saving Old Style last night and read the preparing for winter threads - scary - I am going to have to prepare myself for putting more money in the electricity meter and turning on heaters......
No other news today - I had a 5 hour shift at work which I spent visiting a model railway place with two guys I support - it was a really pleasant shift! Day off tomorrow - and Monday too (although I do need to get started on my university work now - have several assignments to get done and dusted by December).
Hope you all having a good weekend whatever you are doing.Debt free by 22 January 2009 - thanks to an unexpected inheritance - take heart - it DOES HAPPEN!0 -
Is there not any crisis loans or grants you can get via uni? I know that younger students can apply so why not see if there is anything for mature students too.£10 per day Challenge (Oct)

Hi - hadn't thought of asking college for financial support - I am part-time and now on extra time with my studies too - not sure as I work full-time and earn about £11,000 a year - so my crisis is due to my credit debts, not due to insufficient income (if you know what I mean) - still, it's a good point, and worth investigating - thanks :TDebt free by 22 January 2009 - thanks to an unexpected inheritance - take heart - it DOES HAPPEN!0

I have got into a bit of a careless place with finances - I am just in debt and considering it permanent. I am living in my overdraft and considering it permanent. I think I need to sit down and work out another SOA and see what, if anything, could be changed.
Several people (about 5) I know are considering bankruptcy at the moment - and completely given up on ever being able to pay back their debts.
I have been looking at smaller places to rent - and there's very little gain in rent saved.
I am percolating an idea for a business - just can't figure out how to make money out of it......Debt free by 22 January 2009 - thanks to an unexpected inheritance - take heart - it DOES HAPPEN!0 -

Hi there bountiful. I know what you mean, I consider my overdraft permanent too. I can't even remember when I last didn't have an overdraft but it must have been a decade ago.
Good luck with the business idea. If you keep thinking about it and talking about it I'm sure you'll see the way to make it happen.
Meanwhile, could you not earn more than £11,000? I know Cornwall has low wages generally but that does seem very low for someone as talented and resourceful as you seem to be.
And if only that darned bungalow would sell.......Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620
