Quick question please.
I've got 800g of minced beef in fridge. How many meals for 4 (2 adults and 2 teenagers) do you think I could feasibly make (please) without being too stingy, I do have some peppers and mushrooms I can bulk it out with. I was hoping to cook in bulk and freeze some for meals later in week. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in anticipation.GE 36 *MFD may 2043

:hello: Morning!
Back from church and I have just about caught up with the thread and am so very sorry to hear the sad news, Big (((Hugs))) to both Hilary and Beemuzed - losing your Mum is such a huge shock to your systems please take care of yourselves and take time out to grieve.
After losing my Mum I was given this poem:-
"So what if I'm not there
Just hold out your arms
and feel us hug
Feel my breath upon your cheeks
the touch of my lips on yours
Smile and I'm looking into your eyes
Cry and I will catch the tear
and gently, so very gently
brush it back from whence it came
Look into the mirror, clearly unashamedly.
Smile, let your eyes be filled with their natural gentleness
You are looking into my heart."
Apologies as I don't know the author and I know this may make many cry but tears can be very healing, (((hugs)))

Hello
Well not really even though we have carers coming in in help are main carer Joanne she is a saint i would change her for the world sometimes so does some much to help.
During the week we get 3 calls per day 1 hour morning 15 min lunch call & 30 min evening call and the weekend only 2 calls per day morning and evening even this is under threat due to cost cutting. My mum is incontinent so during the day i have to change my mums nappy regularly and wash her also apply creams and given medication and also give her nebuliser when she needs it and on top of that it's the usual household chores, walking the dogs and the weekly shop.
I can't remember the last time i went out for a meal or drink with my friends. Not be nasty but my mum can be a bit demanding calling every 5 min's for something or a rare occasion i have to help my friend with his shredder business she rings constantly, it has taken me 8 weeks battling with my mum to allow me to go to my sisters at the end of April for a week and my sister is staying with my mum.
I have no local family to me as all 6 brothers & sisters of my mum disown her as she can't visit them as for my other 5 1/2 brothers & sisters they also disown there mum as when my mums first marriage to a GI failed so had to put them into care and they won't forgive her. The only one of my 1/2 sisters who i patched things up with last year lives 17 miles for Swansea so i takes 3-4 hours to get here also she has a lot her plate as she also suffers from arthritis and a fused spine and my nephews 30,26,23 suffer from bi-polar & fits and they take a lot of medication.
Cheers

catz what a beautiful poem. I've added it to my documents with the others that have been posted recently.
tattycath you could add lentils or oats to bulk it out even further and add extra veg to make it stretch further again. You could make chilli (I throw almost any vegetables into my chilli), spag bol, cottage pie. By having rice or jacket spuds with the chilli, pasta with the bolognese sauce and extra veg with the cottage pie, you should be able to get quite a few meals out of it. If you have some bread with any of the meals, you could reduce the portion size again.
brogusblue You are quite an :A to cope with all that you are having to do. Have you asked about respite care? That way you could have another break later in the year. Families can be hard work at times, can't they. ((hugs))

Thanks Anniebooklover, that sounds brilliant. your a star.
Brogusblue, my heart goes out to you, it must be very difficult to be a full time carer with all the demands put on you. We are all here for you. Take care.
Catz, I agree with Anniebooklover, that is a lovely poem. Thanks for posting it.GE 36 *MFD may 2043

Respite care, If was to suggest this to my mum i won't hear the end of it :rotfl: I quite imagine my home saying "are you trying to get rid of me" and it would result in world war 3, My mum is stuck in her ways even mentioning the nursing home words in our house is a no no. my mum said she lives at home and dies at home no where else.
I can't even leave the flat with consulting her first, as i said in my ealier post it's taken me 8 weeks to get a break for week at the end of april.
Catz Great poem well done you :T
Cheers

catz, a beautiful poem, bought a lump to my throat xx
Have just had roast pork lunch it was delish, also tidied garden up a bit, cut apple tree back etc, and took stuff to the dump.
Dd is still in her jamas  and will probably stay like that. Going to do the online shopping now, and then have an easy afternon
Have good afternoons all xx0 -
Afternoon all,
Feeling a bit weepy this afternoon, just thinking about my mother...will be fine and my thoughts are with Hilstep and Beemuzed.
Lovely day here, if windy, surprising how the sun makes things better.
DS 2 just back from South Africa where he was at a wedding...enjoyed the 8days there very much, weather nice and seems to have fitted in quite a few different activities...found seafood especially good and very good value....hmmm maybe worth having a think about for a future holiday.
Congratulations on nephew Amie, but sorry to hear that you are not well.
Having ham, cabbage and spuds to-day, OH keeps getting this wonderful value in the local shop (everything else is sky high pricewise) but would like a bit of a rest from ham for a while, have put half of Thursday's buy in freezer for another time, don't think I will ever get either freezer emptied!
Joannasmum...hugs to DD
JackieO...lovely to see you back to your old self...take it easy.
Anniebooklover...maybe you and I need a more up to date thesaurus??
Broguesblue...don't mean this harshly so please don't take it wrongly....my father was an invalid for seven years before he died and we had very little help so I know what its like, but it is sometimes necessary to get across the message to the invalid that you love them and have no hangups about caring for them, but that you are not a slave! You need respite care and you should not feel bad about availing of it....sorry if I sound too nasty on this, but took me ages to realise it in my own case.
Csarina...hugs on your frustration re OH's annuity...makes you want to tear your hair out...or someone else's!
Crazychik...congratulations on your bonus in your 50p bag and on your sensible use of said bonus!
Hugs to anyone else in need of one, have a good day all

Afternoon all. Had yet another lazy-ish morning.........spent it making birthday cards and sorting out stuff for Christmas cards .....so not totally idle.
OH washed a load of his stuff with out soapnuts............job to see just how well they've done. Everything looks ok and he put a pair of 'work' jeans in and they've come up really well but having said that, some of his other 'work' clothes are really bad and they'd be the better test.
Brogusblue................please take time out for yourself. Insist on it. Old peoplem particularly when they are ill can be very difficult and really I think its all to do with control. Your mum isn't in control of her own life at the minute but feels maybe that she can control you instead.
My Mums in a care home, very well run and she's looked after brilliantly but there have been times when I've visited and she's really 'had a go' and demanded this and that from me. I began to feel whatever I did it was not enough then a friend, who's a nurse. told me its just her way of having some control over her life. I wish you well I really do.
catz.................loved the poem...............lump to the throat for sure.
Hugs to all who need them (((((((((:o ))))))))))) and have a good day.Mary
