bacon / spinach creamy pasta sauce
i fry off a clove of garlic and a red onion
add bacon bits and brown a little
add handful of spinach and some chopped mushrooms if you like
then add creme fraiche, low fat cream cheese (and maybe a bit of cream if you have it )to make the sauce
then i finish off with some crumbled feta or other cheese on top
mix with hot pasta and serve with warm ciabatta
yum yum
the same sauce is also delish when made into a suet roll, make suet pastry ,add filling ,roll up and bake in the oven ,serve with veggies
just use the bacon bits in the same way / recipes you would use ham / bacon
so quiches
omelettes
soups
pasta sauces etc0 -
Hiya mandy_moo
I did a hunters chicken recipe once, just made the recipe up after having it in a pub, and it used bacon bits.
Took my big frying pan and poured in generous slug of crap red wine that I had hanging about, chopped shallots, large handful of the bacon bits, some chicken fillets ( you know the goujon shaped ones) loads of mushrooms quartered and a bit of cream I had in. The fats from the bacon bits thickened the sauce up really nicely.
served with salt roasted new pots and some mangetout
And DAMN good it was too. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
 Wow! thanx everyone.....there's some great ideas here :beer:0

Hi mandy moo,
I buy ASDAs bacon pieces to make carbonara.
Boil a pan of water, add some value spaghetti.
Fry the bacon pieces till crispy
Add a small tub of cream
Crack an egg in the bacon mix
Add some grated cheese. This seems to stop the egg scrambling
Drain the pasta, add the bacon mix to it, and stir well.
Put in bowls, and sprinkle some cheese on top.
Serve with H/M garlic bread.
My hubby sulks if he doesn't get this once a week!! :rotfl:July Grocery Challenge Budget £160

hi... the only meat product i buy in the supermarket is the packs of bacon pieces.... they were 54p but now gone up to around the 75p...i buy them for making quiches and bacon sarnies......i allways take a look at all the packs to make sure there's no big lumps of fat, and that most of the pieces are pritty even in size......
so now that i am trying to cut back on spending, and trying to cook meals from scratch......have you got any suggestions on what else i can make..with the bacon....pieces...Work to live= not live to work0 -
not sure how big your pieces are
but ...
omelettes
sprinkle them into potato bake
fry them crispy and sprinkle into potato salad
chopped up in mashed tato
add into sweet potato soup
mix with cheddar, sprinkle over chicken breasts and grill
i have a feeling you might mean bigger pieces than these require but hey you can always cut em up0 -
i use them in chicken and bacon tagliatelle ,i add red onion, mushrooms etc then make a white sauce or you could just use tins of campbells soups!!
