Air Source Heat Pumps

-8C last night and the pump is still working - with help from the 3KW immersion heater. Temps are all at normal and immersion is cycling on & off (I can tell because the lights dim when it comes on!) - so not running flat out. Looks like this was a better solution that start running ancillary heating around the place.
You owe me
You would have had expensive electric heaters running lol and now you can just blast the immersion when you need now.
YOu know the capabilities of the system now so you know when you can start using it for hot water.
It will already be running flat out any way the same as it was before but now its just giving it a helping hand.
My system was switched off completly over night, apart from bedrooms so lounge was at 11C when I got up at 12 today.
Flatmate was up late watching tv and just turned it off.
So at the mo I have a quartz heater (modern version of 3 bar fire, not a halogen though as uses different tubes) just to give it a help get the temp up and its working.
Nearlly at set point and then I can turn it off, only been on half hour and the cat loves it!!!! SOrry puss but it isnt staying on!! I do wish I had a gas fire though!!! Love that warm glow!!!If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0 -
Last January I had to turn my old GSH on for just one day to add more heat to the house. I remember it was when we had a howling easterly and it was just tearing out the heat, I could actually feel the house breathing chilly air.
Looking at the forecast, we've got some siberian easterlies coming this weekend so get your backup heating ready.
I'm beginning to think removing the old gas fire from the front room might not have been such a good idea, as it would have continued working in a power cut.
Batton down the hatches!0 -

I clicked your thanks button in lieu of buying you a beer
Another day where we're not going to get above freezing.
I do feel for people burning expensive fuels to keep warm in this weather - I'll bet most have no idea just how big their winter bills are going to be after this severe weather - it will catch out a great many people - and the gas/electric companies will be jumping up & down with glee through the year when they announce their record profits again :mad:0 -
I read in the paper the other day, pensioners have been sacks of books from charity shops to burn cos its cheaper than wood or coal.
It was on the news the profits that the energy companies will be making!!!!If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0 -

What was the total cost ?Most interesting - thanks.
A couple of quick questions.
I have read that the minimum temperature for Domestic Hot water was supposed to be 65C - prevention of Legionnaires' disease? Could that be the reason for the 'booster' immersion heater?
I appreciate that it is early days yet, but do you think that moving to an Economy 7 tariff would be cheaper?
Never thought about the noise problem.0
