I suspect many on MSE want an 'Idiot's Guide' to the various types of heat pump as well.

    For each type give:

Approx cost of installation - not DIY

Approx cost of running - average COP and servicing

    Advantages.

    Disadvantages.

Also a list (or mention) of good installers in different areas could help with design and quotes .

Thats difficult as most of us have just had a system installed so the handful of people who have had systems installed might or might not reccomend the guys that installed it.

I personally wouldnt reccomend my installer he was cutting corners, the guys that came back to sort it, also did the same.

So its like GCH engineers there are cowboys etc.

  • And some systems are DIY, like the B&Q Airforce split units - so we only have ourselves to blaim for any !!!!-ups :rotfl:

Air Source to water heat pumps can still attract a £900 Grant from the Low Carbon Building Programme, plus an extra £400 if replacing a G rated boiler, £1,300 off.... but you would be looking at having to spend in the region of between £4.5k and £8.5K depending on size of house, level of roof and cavity insulation, DG, if an old oil boiler is to be replaced, it is quite likely that the oil tank would also need to be replaced with a bunded tank (see OFTEC) new regs. depending on the age of the system the controls may need replacing, i.e. TRV's on radiators if not fitted, programmer, Room Stat etc....powerflush for the warranty... replacing the hot water cylinder if it is uninsulated, inefficient or close to the end of its life and to get the new system signed off... it must comply with the energy efficiency building regs part L1B conservation of fuel & power in existing buildings which came in to force April 2006....so.....just getting the old boiler replaced might cost more than you think, therefore the ASHP might be a better choice considering the lower running costs and shorter payback.
There are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't! ;)

  • Hi

I am an installer of heat pumps and were shcoked at the price you were quoted this is way too expensive.

£1500 , You can visit my site for further details freeenergy4life

I thought the figures being quoted were for an entire replacement system. If so I have no doubt that just connecting up 2 ASHPs would be about £1500. Question why 2 and not one?

Finally I think your web-site could do with more infromation about your products - look at your rivals. I realise you want people to call to get your sales leads but at the moment there is little to tempt me:(

Seems funny that your spamming with promotion of your company.

You are also clearly referring to Air to Air systems and not an air to water system which is much more expensive.

  • We have recently installed 2 x 10KW Danfoss (Eco) ground source units - we have 800mtrs of loops on single phase. The house is a 400 year old renovation (completed by ourselves) and has single glazing (listed) but very highly insulated. We installed energy meters to monitor input and output of both units.

Sice commisioning last August we have nonitored COP and seen figures from 2.9 to 3.4.

The sales literature from Danfoss was very clear for every 1 unit of energy used (input) you will get up to 3 free units for 25 years life. We have this documented and with the contracts.

We have had a number of meetings with Danfos and various engineers apointed by them and asked them to show how we get the 3 free units (COP 4) - they have been unable to do so and have not advised us of anything we have done wrong in installation or design.

I believe this is miss selling and should be covered under the sale of goods act - we have engaged solicitors and are looking at a significant claim over the 25 years at a reduced efficiency.

Has any one had similar COP performance and seen undeliverable claims?

What can be done to resolve this?

    Any ideas welcome.

I suspect its as you've posted ...... they say 'up to 3 free units' ..... so I doubt there is any claim to be made.

Frankly if you're definitely getting a COP of 3+ that's not to be sneezed at, surely still a very worthwhile investment.
