Theres no fan inside the compressor, the compressor contains a motor though so it could be something to do with that.

So is that video taken in coolign mode? It seems to run very fast for cooling mode.

It could be a sign that the compressor is on its way out. Which for a Gree unit it would be cheaper to buy a new outdoor unit as the compressor is the most expensive part of the system.

I will take another video for you this evening when its light so you can get a better picture.
When the outdoor unit is on, there is a "strong breeze" which eminates from it!! Is this not from a fan blade turning at high speed?
It was running fast as I had just turned it on and to a low cooling temperature to get it ramped up to show the problem at its worst.

Yes a breeze should come from the front of the unit, but there is 2 separate components a compressor and a fan. You can see the fan turning at the front.

The fan should slow down as it approaches the set temp on the remote.

Ok I have listened to the video and thats deffo the compressor? Can you do a video of it once its ramped down and holding the room temperature?

It just sounds like a noisy compressor to be honest, sounds more like a fixed speed system would but as you say its only when its running at full speed. A fixed speed system compressor runs at full speed all the time.

I will do a video of it when it has ramped down, sure. The system was installed in Summer 07.

The thing is, it did not make that buzzing for the 1st year of install. We used it all last summer on cooling and it was fine. When we started using it this year for heating in Feb 09, then the buzzing started on full ramp. Now its doing it on cooling.

Are you sure it is not to do with the spinning of the fan blade? Is it a possibility that it has come loose slightly from its mounting, causing it to be off centre?

that sound is the sound of the compressor, all a/cs make that sound although not as aggresive as yours seems.

it has ramped down now and is nice and quiet, just like i would expect. the buzzing only occurs on full ramp.
