Ryanair increases baggage and check-in charges

Here's an old idea that might still work if you need to check in a lot and don't fancy sixty-six quid return ...
Ryanair used to make a one-off charge for surfboards ... I saw a bloke at Stansted last year who had a very stuffed surfboard bag which weighed between 20 and 30 kg I think
He told me that somewhere in the middle of this seven foot long bag was one of those cheap polystyrene boards (just to fit the rules you understand :T)
I am sure that Ryanair have plenty of space for these and to be honest I think I'd prefer a bit of ballast in the bottom of the hull - it's a wonder Ryanair's flights don't cross the skies of Europe inverted thesedays
I think the one-off charge for one of these was about £15 return last year, but I am sure someone will confirm the latest ...

Just booked a return flight for my daughter from Granada to East Midlands(and we live in Cornwall!) The original cost was £51.06 and the final amount came to £61.00 - no insurance, no bags, and online checking!! How does that work? I paid by dedit card to reduce cost- otherwise another£4-5£!!0

Was there a surf board?

I book flights for my boss to Knock most weeks. Eight of his last ten flights have cost 1p each (the other two were in school holidays). He checks in at the airport and always take luggage. Therefore each trip costs him £14.02 return. He also buys a coffee during the flight, so another £1.60, so the trip costs a grand total of £15.62. If I was to get the train, £15 would not even get me from Nottingham to Birmingham!
As is usually the case, I would not be surprised if those that are complaining don't even fly regularly!
So your boss works or lives at the airport? If not you have to add the cost of getting to and from the airport.
And if you travel at 9am or later the Nottingham to Birmingham train fare is £11.80, and a return at any time is £23.0 -

Me too! I've done it several times, in fact, twice with 3 kids and once with 2. The last time we stayed a week in Barcelona in a super-cheap Travelodge room, and travelled nearly super-cheap on Ryanair. We took precisely one carry-on bag each, scrupulously weighed and measured, including carrying a laptop in mine! It was a tad complicated getting through Security, as you have to take the laptop out and STILL only have one bag/item each (!) but still do-able. I had to demonstrate to the lady that I could put it back in my rucksack and it would still be the right size for hand-baggage.
We took sandwiches with us, which we ate before going through the gates and took our own water, which we drank, then tipped out the remainder in to the drinking fountain BEFORE the security gate - you can only take liquids in 100ml bottles - THEN refilled the empty bottles at a drinking fountain the other side. The staff were fine about us bringing our own water on board - just as well, as I sure as hell wasn't going to pay for bottled water if I could help it.
It wasn't too bad queuing to get on. I think you just have to chill a bit and try not to let it bother you. (That's the theory!) I tell myself this is a 'budget' trip, so I shouldn't expect too much, and try as hard as I can not to think about Green issues! lol
I never flew on a plane until I was in my mid-thirties, so travelling abroad is still a great treat for me. As long as the plane stays up and I end up with the same amount of baggage I started out with, I'm happy.

omg you so love ryan air don't you!!So learn not to take too much luggage!
I can go away for ten nights with hand luggage only, including dressing for two different climates ... it really isn't that difficult!
Can anybody actually qualify why they dislike Ryanair?
i too could go away for 10 nights with 1 hand luggage, but i would like a change of clothes as well as pants! not to mention toiletries to wash with.
but then again i take care of my appearance and hygiene .0 -
I must admit that Ryanairs charges really annoy me. The scramble to get on a Budget Airline is bad enough, but when everyone is carrying a bag that is the maximum size for hand luggage, it is even worse. I don't mind paying the cost of hold luggage, but it seems that I am now paying that, and subsidising the cheap headline fares. Still, as others say, the fares are still cheap, and it's my own faulf for buying stuff abroad, and having a strange desire to change my clothes at reasonable intervals!
Having said that, if train Companies charges £5 for every minute that people spend shouting into a mobile phone, or £20 for invading my space with a laptop, I'd be over-joyed.0 -
Thew one thing that did get me on the last Ryanair flight I went on- beginning of this month to Brussels
I bought a coffee from a cafe place at Stansted airport- where a sign stated "Drink here or take on board"
However when I got to the gate I was told that I was not allowed to take it onboard- this is while I had handed over my online check-in slip. I merely said "Og thats strangeadter the notice at the cafe- and told them what the notice said.- I wasnt being stroppy or anything- I rold them that I would finish the coffe at the gate and board after- and asked for my boarding slip back. I was then threatened by the stewardess that I would be stopped from boarding the p[lane as I had a bad attirude?????????????
Funnily enough a few people behind me heard about the coffee not being allowed on- the man directly behind me shouted to his friend " Make sure you hide your coffee, they are not letting it onboard"
Nobody else was stopped or questioned about hot drinks- but strangely enough when the rubbish bag was coming round I noticed that there were loads of empty cups from the cafe that Id bought the coffee at- and they had all been taken onbiard0
