Hi
I've suddenly realised that my cheapy asda tomatoes aren't really giving me the taste that I used to get, or that I want from tinned tomatoes. Not sure when it happened, but reading in another thread about them, suddenly made me realise.
So which ones in your opinion are best?
I've heard good things about Aldi, Lidl, Tescos white label and the premium Napolina ones.
Tbh I'm interested in the taste not the cost, but if the cheapest ones are the best tasting then :money:

napolina are lovely but i wouldn't pay for them...
Lidl are by far the best value alternative. Although sainsburys own brand aren't bad either. Avoid tesco value at all costs, you may as well not bother.0 -
Napolina packs of 4 are half price in Morrisons at the moment. They taste really good.0

I think the Sainsburys basics are very good, nice juicy toms and a thick sauce so I don't have to reduce my sauces for so long0

I agree with Floyd, Sainsburys are one of the best for the price (21p i think) Though if you have a costco near you they do a tray of 18 cans for about £3 and they're pretty decent. I'm always reluctant to spend over the odds for tinned toms since I use them as if they're going out of fashion and in most recipes you can't tell the difference between premium and basics, both Sainsburys & costco ones are nice and thick though0

has 12 tins for £3 at Asda, but I can't find either offer on lineFreedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
4 tins of napolina are 1-25 at morrisons at the mo ,so theyre a bargain.
must admit I only buy more expensive ones if I can ,they do have a nicer taste .
4 tins princes tomatoes were £1 at iceland the other day ,I think theyre always that price ,they were nice.0 -
I usually buy Tesco value because they deliver my shopping. However, this time, so far, 4 tins have had only juice in them. I shall tell them and get my money back.
Other tomatoes will be tried.0 -
I usually go for the super-cheapy ones, but as Asda currently have Napolina on 12 for £3, it's worth stocking up if you use lots of them. I also like Cirio - they used to be fairly easy to get but I haven't seen them in a while.2015 comp wins - £370.25
Recent wins: gym class, baby stuff
Thanks to everyone who posts freebies and comps! :j0 -
The Cirio tomatoes from Costco are good as are Napolina (if they're on special offer).
They do have a much richer taste....
That said, Aldi and Netto ones are quite passable.:wave:0 -
I agree that the Sainsburys basics are really good value, very juicy. I usually use plum or passata more than chopped.0
