I use Tesco Value Chopped Tomatoes - I never bother with the whole tinned things. I have also beenknown to use Lidl as well.0

A bit off topic but I seen someone uses a lot of lentils in their cooking.
I have bought a bag of lentils today and was going to use them to beef up spag bol - do I just drop a handful in to the sauce or do they need soaking ???
As for tinned toms - if they are going in a sauce cheap ones it is but if they are being usedas a pizza tobbing or for cooked breakfast, etc then has to be Napolina

Funnily enough, made a chicken soup with lentils today, I boiled them for the ten minutes required on the bag, the added them to the soup for the other 20 minutes simmer needed.
We're still alive, so it must be OKFreedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

No just drop them in while your making the sauce, they cook quite quickly, 10 minutes or so if they're not too old (that's yellow or red ones - puy will take a bit longer) and will thicken the sauce as they go. Not too big a handful as they swell dramatically as they absorb the liquid.0 -
Thank you both !!!!
I love this site - lol
Have pressed thank you but then it disappeared ???

Another vote for Aldi's. i usually buy their chopped tomatoes for 27p, but sometimes their whole ones for 21p. there's a herby/premium type too for 29p, but not tried that. I've tried other brands but they just seem so watery in comparison to Aldi's which is lovely and thick and rich.

If you are not too bothered about price then (having tried several brands) I think the M&S organic ones (peeled plum tomatoes) are the best for flavour (they are 59p per tin, which is still quite a bit less than Napolina @ 73p per tin).
Also, Sainsburys do something called 'Chair de tomate' from France which is great if you want a strong tomato flavour or want to boost the flavour - it's like a cross between tomato puree and tinned tomatoes."The happiest of people don't necessarily have the
best of everything; they just make the best
of everything that comes along their way."
