its just not funny, people leaving there homes filthy once they leave, the home I am in now was only 9 months old when we bought it, but I can tell you it had never seen a clean in those 9 months, I didn't notice when we viewed , cause it smelt nice, but the oven (yuk) and kitchen units were particularly bad, and I won't even mention the toilet.

If it was a rental property, i would see if the managing agents would stump up the cost of a professional clean, surely it has been checked since the last tenants moved out:confused:

P.s What is this ammonia thing for the oven?

  • The last time we moved house DH stayed in the old place to clean it while I went to sort out the new place. When I got there they were still in the process of moving stuff out and there were all sorts showing up - including used condoms under the beds  and I mean all of them. BIL luckily took over and simply rolled them up into the carpets which were going into storage (and boy did we have a lucky break that we didn't agree to buy them, don't think I could ever have gone barefoot on them after that). I wonder have they taken the carpets out of storage yet

Needless to say when I went back to collect dh from the old place it was absolutely sparkling!!

Good luck with the move and make sure and enjoy the difference you're making to your new house!

Annie, please stay with us. If you feel no 'real' friends you always have us. I am not posting as regularly as I used to but everyone on this forum means so much to me and I do know I can come here when I have problems or share in the good times. My virtual friends sometimes mean more than the others!!!!!!!!!!!

I so agree. I only really have one friend who I knew at school though we weren't actually friends then, but have got to know each other since we moved back here (and have had spookily similar lives!) I love coming on here because everyone is so friendly and helpful.

    Morning all

Just glimpsed Sola's opener on this thread - aka the woman who is so organised she beats Shirley Conran into a cocked hat:rotfl: Hmmm..... note just made about making ones own white vinegar from 1 part acetic acid and 9 parts water - hadnt come across that one before...will try. Any further such hints please that I may not know yet? I'd thought I was being good buying non-brewed condiment instead of "proper" vinegar and deciding to have a go with that - as white vinegar is so much more expensive than malt vinegar.

OMG Pigpen and Olliebeak, my problems don't seem so bad now!

Merlot - on a thread about cleaning ovens someone suggested putting some ammonia into a cup and leave it in the oven overnight and letting the fumes do their work. Also I think it was the same person who suggested putting the racks etc in a black bin liner and pouring in some ammonia and leaving it overnight. It works much better than any specially made oven cleaner and you don't have all those chemicals everywhere. You have to be careful of the fumes because they do make your eyes water. She suggested a cupful but I didn't use as much as suggested because even a small amount has plenty of fumes.

    Belfastgirl23 - yuck!!!

Well it's good to be able to rant to sympathetic people. Thanks for listening!
