things homemade today - batch of soup in the morning with the chicken carcass, and tray bake of twinks hobnobs (the mixture squashed into a tray makes some nice chunky flapjack squares)
i have different variations that i do use in the week though.
The mince is made into one of many meals - shepherds pie, chilli, stovies (mince and potatos) spaghetti bolognese with pasta, mince ina tomato sauce which we sometimes putin pitta bread if i can find any reduced or in a bargain. We have a meal with mince once a week
Potatoes, we seem to eat alot fo but the bags are so diverse we can get a jacket potato sized one out of them then we eat mashed, chips, boilied potatoes etc form it too. Have been known to slice it on top of a casserole too and to shread it and make a roshti (???) thing too. so they form the bulk of our main meals quite a bit - we probably have them about 4 times a week
Pasta we eat alot fo too some weeks nut its normally borign with jsut a sauce on it or with the spag bol which we dont mind too much. Tahts probably a few times a week too
We try to have a roast a week, then any spare meat is stretched the next day in the soup etc and we eat some more of the meat throughout the week.
Also we dont tend to have sausages and fishfingers int eh same week -we could but we find we dont miss having lots of meat - ok i know its not alot but its nice and if its asked for i will sway from the meal plan.
This week like i said has been a bit up in the air as ive had two more mouths to feed and its amazing how much one extra person and child can eat when they are use to BIG portions. Just feel like ive been continuously baking the last few days and im knackered. Still havent managed to get my lump seen to but docotr said to come on monday if i was concerned - found out today though that it could be swollen lymph caused by a burn - yes i burnt my wrist tuesday/wednesday last week and my bump appeared on thursday - its not bothering me in the slightest so ill see how i feel tomorrow.
right cant remember what else to write now although im sure there was something so if i remember ill repost later
Time to find me again0 -

i have to slyly make them whilst bf and son are out and hide them away so they dont scoff the lot
If ever you need it again its in the indexed collection under twinks hobnobs.
here is her recipe (nicked off anotehr thread!)
this is the recipe i use
8oz sr flour
8oz sugar
8oz porridge oats
8oz margarine
1tbsp golden syrup
1tbsp hot water
1/2 tsp bic soda
mix flour, oats and sugar, melt marg, syrup and water in a pan stir in bic soda and add to dry mix, mix well, make smallish balls and put on greased tray and flatten slightly with a fork, 180oc for 15 mins, cool on the tray, you just want them golden in oven not brown
hope you enjoy them mumsrus and thanks you twink!!! they are yummy!!!Blah0 -

Hi, I've been reading this thread avidly (thanks Sammy for all your hard work!) and have copied the shopping list in readiness for having a go in February.
We are a family of 4, myself, DH, DS(21) and DS(10) and all the boys like their meat! I am hoping to stick to this plan to help me to keep our shopping down to £200 per month.
I really need to do this as I will be taking early retirement soon, and my income will be halved (*gulp*). I have 3 months "to practice" before penury sets in because after that, I won't have much leeway.
I am looking forward to being at home for a few months and being able to cook and bake again.
Anyway, I also wanted to add, that I tried Twink's hobnob recipe today, but disaster struck halfway through putting it together - I went to get the porridge oats out of the cupboard only to find they were full of those black weevil things!!! Had to throw all of it in the bin, and no more oats!! Luckily nothing else infested. Quick change of recipe to choc chip cookies, so all not lost!! And now have one very happy (and full)10 yr old. At this rate I will have to make some more to last the week!!0 -
Prices can vary depending on location; prices can vary depending on the shops/resources available; prices can vary (quite considerably sometimes) depending on portion sizes. And let's be really honest, portions vary depending on whether you are feeding toddlers, tweens, adults or teens! A recipe "for four" could well be a recipe to feed 12 toddlers or even interpreted as a recipe for 1 if you are feeding a teen
(quoted by big-board).
That's absolutely right big-board, thank you for your input, perhaps you would like to post a monthly money saving spend, complete with all the bits you might think are missing and with all price variations etc. I think sammy_kaye, you have (and indeed are doing) done a fantastic job so far, you are truly inspirational. Your thread will take some beating, however, I am looking forward to big-board sharing her wisdom with us too. as I am sure are the rest of mse followers.GE 36 *MFD may 2043
