Have to say I've been using Home Basic for a couple of weeks without any noticeable problems.
I use it only for basic surfing, emailing and wordprocessing so maybe it's with games etc where it falls down.0 -

Not for me, I haven't installed that many games but even old ones seem to be fine. It's my problem, it's my problem

It doesn't.
Some people just enjoy 'vista bashing'. As long as it is used on a recent PC there is no problems with it at all.0 -
For me the speed and performance are the biggest issue for me comparing Vista over XP. From my point of view, it's a disappointing operating system from Microsoft when compared with the competition (Mac OS Tiger and Leopard) for many, many reasons. I use it as development platform and for design, (and normal office day-to-day stuff) and I'm still using XP on mission critical systems.
As an aside, if you are running Vista and want to run an older OS / older apps/games which aren't compatible, use Microsoft's free Virtual PC 2007 - it's excellent (and runs XP too). Set-up a virtual PC, install the OS your like (2000, XP, or even Vista) and away you go.0 -

You may live in the real world but your not being very realistic;)
I am being realistic its just that we as consumers have become accustomed to putting up with second rate goods and service, and there isnt a lit of arguement as to why it cant be done.0 -

Although I can't think of a single instance of an OS being flawless. Even linux/open source where there's only the principle and no commercial limits/deadlines has many bugs and flaws. If the entire Open Source community can't produce bug free software I don't think we can expect a commercial company with limited resources to be able to.
I think there's a big difference between saying someone should strive harder for perfection and saying they should achieve perfection."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I dont mind the odd bug or fix but IMHO its getting out of hand especially when it happens time and time again.0

Well I've yet to upgrade to an OS that hasn't at least been out a while anyway. So I've yet to see how good/bad Vista is."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Well I've just checked and after running Vista since last January I've installed 15 Security updates for Vista. Obviously there are other non OS ones but in total I've only installed 21 plus 9 cumulative security updates. I don't think 30 is outrageous for a brand new OS.
There's an interesting compariosn of vulnerabilities in XP, Vista and OS X here pity it doesn't cover Linux as well. It's my problem, it's my problem

The thing that strikes me most is that every single negative thing I've heard about Vista is identical to what I heard when XP came out. Which is why I'm rather sceptical of the Vista bashing even though I'm yet to even try it."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
